I can comment on the 6a box... I had the off-road version of it (potted for protection), it ate up plugs, cap & rotor in 20k miles or so. Mopar cap & rotor worked best, 3923's worked best on the other end. If I were to do it over, I'd leave the box out and do the coil & wires only.

This is an interesting thread. This truck sounds like a carbon copy of mine. I have also had my cyl. heads replaced - new dist. cap / rotor / wires - new TPS installed @ 0.7 volts reading. I used Champion plugs and Autozone cap / rotor / and wires. I, too, have this same surging or slight bucking at idle when you take your foot off the brake. My truck is also the one with the fluctuating timing.I would be curious to know what finally fixes this problem.

one other thing to mention is the Accel coils seem to crap out sooner than later. I'd go MSD.

Hey Steve,

Is there any benefit to upgrading a stock coil to the MSD Blasterif the stock is functioning properly?

hell yes... much more energy to the plug. the stock coil is something like 25kv while the aftermarket ones are 40kv & up. your best bet too is get the MSD wires. 40 ohms/ft vs 10~15k ohms/ft for stockers.

Already running the MSD superconductor wires, smoothed the idle more than I would have thoughtjust aset of wires would do. I'll have to get a coil next month, that's a relatively cheap upgrade. I'll get the Accel wire harness too to make an easypatch over without tearing up the stock coil plug.

What did you notice going with the MSD setup (any gains, smoother idle, etc.)? And what would be thebenefit of going with just a coil?

bill im going to look into my timing as well if your having alot of the issues im having i wonder if were dealing with the same issue. i have to say my truck was a dog when i bought it i was geting ready to get rid of it but then i found that i had a vacuum leak at my evap canister so i took care of that and it made a difference but still wasnt fully pleased but i did the tps mod and i love the way my throttle feels now its real nice. im still looking for some more gain but im going to do a new tune up with the mopar cap and rotor and the msd wires and the autolite plugs with a new coil and the 180 t- stat and see were i end up. i think with this fairly cheap setup i should see some noticable difference. i always heard that rams were very peticular with the tune up parts that are used. so i assume if this is true it could be why the truck runs ok when it should be towing and driving no problem. so in the mean time bill ill keep you updated with what i find and you do the same thanks

I would really appreciate that. If I come up with any solution I will let everyone know.
