Default New Owner Questions

[align=left]Hello to All-First time poster, and First time Dodge owner!!

I have a few questions that I'd appreciate some feedback on.

I just bought a 98 1500 Club Cab 4X4. I would like to know what is the best tire for this truck with mostly highway travel, but also moderate towing and trailering through snow.

Also, my truck is bone stock, and heard there are a few aftermarket items to make it sound better. I do not want to wake the neighbors, but a good throaty roar would be cool. Is this exhaust or air filter, or do I not know SH*T??

Thanks in advance.

D.

welcome to df. as far as tires go. thats basicly a ur choice kinda question and theres so many options out there. it would be best for u to talk to a local tire shop. although there are a few good tires out there maybe someone can comment on.

as far as sound. theres a tons of thing that can be done. do u care only about sound or do u want performace also? do u want dual pipes, a full exhaust systemor just a replacement muffer? same goes for air intakes. my advice is just do some searching around this site and you find alot of answers.

if you need help finding anything or using any part of the forum. please fell free to pm me or one of the other moderators on the board.

I am not looking to do an expensive upgrade this early on, so at this point I'm only looking for a good sound out of the truck. What would I need to install to accomplish this?

Tires I have used firestone, goodyear, cooper, and dulap all ranging from cheep to expensive and the best I have found are the cooper sts series Dodge used them for afactoryoption, sizebieng 265 75 r16 which is what I had when i bought the truck and which is what I currently run now. For intake I used an inexpencive round k&n Filter and edelbrock roundchrome filter housing that I bought from Autozone for $20.00 the k&n Filter was $36.00 As for the exhaust I have Mopar performance3" cat back which was $425.00 However I have seen flowmaster mufflers for under $100.00 that sound awsome!!!!!!!!! Good Luck with your new ram and remember drive it like you stole it!

Exhaust will give you the throat you want, I run a Magnaflow 3" in/out. It's louder but not obnoxious, has a morecontrolled soundI feel the Flowmaster lacks. Exhaust sound is probablythe most subjective thing on a vehicle; you have to go with whatsounds good to you.

As far as tires, stay away from discount tire's pathfinder brand. I've run 2 sets and haven't gotten 30,000 miles out of either set that had a 60K warranty. Discount Tire is great about their warranty policy and crediting you for premature wear. I've heard really good things aboutBF GoodrichLong TrailT/A's for mostly road driving, as far as wear goes.

For tires if you are going to stayon the road andhave some snowI know a few people that swear by Michelin M/Ss. Off roadI have only seen those turn in to chocolate donuts spinningwhile you wait for someone to come pull you out. Other problem is they tend to be pretty pricy. I have hadgood luck with discount tire and BFG,one set of MTs and one set AT. MTs probably not what you want for on road, butATs aredecent insnow alittle lacking in wet slush. Where are you at? Some guys are out in Colorado and were talking tires on another thread might have better local info, I know discount tire isn't everywhere, but I had great luck with warranty and help 1200 miles away from where I bought a set of BFGs that an angry girl ended up putting 12nails in. Luckyshe didn'tknow much and went for tread not sidewall. Story for a different thread.

I think I have the tires narrowed down.

Regarding the exhaust, would I need to change out the muffler only, or redo the entire system?

And to be more specific, does the intake have ANYTHING at all to do with sound?

Thanks
