I wouldn't believe him. Don't take the opinion of one shop or one person. Or just do a compression test your self.

Go to AutoZone and rent a comp. tester. Pull the fuel pump relay then take one plug at a time out and screw the tester in. Crank it 3 revolutions and take the reading. Put that plug back and do all the others. Should be at least 95psi, also all the cylinders should be really close to the same psi.

If you pay thaty guy to put a new motor in and don't get a second opinion or don't do it yourself your screwing yourself.

Could be just a cracked valve or seat. A valve job is a lot cheaper than a new engine. I would ask to see the test results. These guys sound like jackasses [sm=icon_beat.gif]
How many miles on your engine?
The shop didn't really give you that pic did they?

I wouldn't trust that test, looks like the mechanic let his 4 year old daughter do it and taught her some choice language.

It's relatively easy to do yourself as Socha described, then you know your results.
