My brother in Laws GMC Sierra does that. It just recently started happening after he got his duel exhaust redone at Meineke. I have no idea what it is but it sounds EXACTLY the same as you described it. If you find out what it is let me know so I can pass on the info to him.

Does it get louder the faster you go or is the noise the same pitch? At what speed do you notice the sound......slow, fast, or acombination? Does it make the noise when your at idle and you rev the engine? ( in case its a loose exhaust hanger).

Makes me think it could be an injector.

My brother in laws almost sounds like someting is sparking. Maybe a wire is pushed up against a pipe an it melted or something?

No. Sometimes a sticking injector will 'tick'.

Dammit, I should have thought of that. Been there before although it was a broken connection inside of the spark plug boot. Intermittant contact caused the ticking and arcing.

IDK about the GMC, but didn't Jeep say it only happened when he was going, not when he was idling, I think if something was arcing, it would be doing it idling as well. Same pitch too, he says, what about something in the tranny thats ticking when it goes into gear?
