I big secret the auto companies dont want you toknow is a cat produces platinum that's why they will take your old cats free or next to nothing.

???? produces platinum???? I know it's made with a platinum alloy thatis the catalyst for converting exhaust to less harmful components, but it isn't like its converting smog to platinum. The platinum inside doesn't do you much good as it needs to be separated from it's other ion and bonded back to an actual piece of platinum through an electrolysis process.

The market rate of platinum right now is over $1100 an ounce, if it were readily usable, there would be more muffler shop break-ins than you could shake a dead cat at.

Thanks guys, i think ill just get a high flow cat and not risk anything. But another question ive had for awhile, is it true that we cant run true duel exhaust because of lack of o2 sensor ports on the chip? or something on the lines of that? Thanks for all the help
If you have an 01 with the CA emissions package on it you can run true duals. They have 2 exhaust and 4 O2 sensors.

well here in toledo there was a nice write up in the toledo blade about shops being broke into and cats being cut off of cars then being sold on the "black market"

I recently had my cat gutted on my flowmaster super 44 exhaust system, and i was very pleased with the results. It sounds really good. It really made a nice differance too. it seriouslly sounds like my truck has a camshaft now when i start my truck, i just love it!. i had the hi-flow, and i didnt really see a differance to be honest. i mean obviously a hi-flow cat is still restricted because the truck got a lot louder once i gutted the hi-flow cat. had i known i was going to gut my cat, i would have NEVER bought that damn hi-flow to begin with. Could of saved myself $95! If you want to kind of hear what a gutted cat sounds like, ill drop a little link of a new video i made on youtube. you can see it still sounds very nice and doesnt sound chincy or anything. I hope this persuades you not to buy a hi-flow

I did some research on this a few years ago and actually wound up talking to someone in the EPA. As you know federal law mandates the catalytic conv. The law also says it's illegal to remove or modify a cat. It is also illegal to replace a cat that is still operating or is undamaged. (that was a surprise to me) If the vehicle came with single exhaust it is illegal to modify the exhaust before the cat. In other words true duals, unless equipped from the factory are illegal. splitting the exhaust after the cat is ok. Most of this information is posted on the epa's web site, or at least it use to be. It was a pain to navigate but it was interesting. Just thought you'd like the information.

Man it really is nuts how much crap they have on vehicles. I so badly want longtube headers, but its crazy they are considered illegal. It's just the chances of ever being caught is so minimal, at least for now, and depending on where you live. I completely know my exhaust is illegal, but I've yet to be bothered yet...very suprising. You really got to learn to tame your exhaust lol if you go crazy with it. I know regardless of all these laws on exhaust, I will still be getting those longtube headers and that matching off-road y-pipe. Its always good to keep those laws in the back of your mind though. It's also why if you ever going to modify your cat, DO NOT remove it. It's the least you can do is make it look like you have cats. Why be a dead give away in the circumstance a cop actually got down beneath your truck and looked lol. I gotta tell ya guys, I am always looking around me making sure there isnt a cop around me. Whenever I'm at a stop light, I am always looking in my mirrors to make sure there isn't a cop around me. If there is one, I just go so slow and its still hard to not make the damn exhaust make any noise haha. Just have to be cautious if you are packing a mean exhaust. It also helps to have some buddys in the automotive business, otherwise getting an inspection can be very difficult!

i know guys who opened the cat and installed a pipe to go through it making a fake cat this would be a little more difficult with the 2 pipes going into the cat but it would eliminate the "swirl effect"

Yeah I had somewhat wondered about that whole swirl affect thing. I never ran the pipe through my cat, just had it gutted. It doesnt make any kind of weird noise nor do i feel some kind of differance in h/p, but im sure it doesnt any more of a differance than a muffler would do.
