well i broke a pitman arm puller and a universal claw type puller on my buddies 97 ram. anyone got any pointers before i kill this ram, the damn pitman arm is not coming off.

 

all else fails heat it up or torch it off...

OTC makes a puller that almost encircles the arm. I've never broken one of those.

I'm just posting so I don't have to read another lecture about not posting in threads about legitimate problems. Can't help you out with your pitman, but I did make your post have 5 replies and 65 reads. Hope that is up to your standards.

Spray the splines with PBBlaster or something similar first and let it sit over night or at least for an hour or 2. Whatever puller you use, a sure fire way to get the pitman off is to tighten the puller up, but not enough to break it... Then hit the pitman arm with a hammer a few times, right at the splines. Hit the pitman arm, NOT the splines. That will loosen it up a little. Tighten the puller again a turn or 2 and repeat with the hammer. Keep doing this and it will eventually come off without breaking the puller. This is assuming that you are trying to get it off the steering gear box.
