What's the real deal with "superchips"?

RE: What's the real deal with "superchips"?
So I guess my question is what kind of gains should I expect if I buy one of the programers? 15hp? 50hp? 1mpg, 3mpg? Anybody have one that would be willing to share their experience with it? Is it worth the cost? And I see the ones from hypertech you plug in, tune it and then unplug it. Are three any like the edge that you can change settings while driving that work well for the 5.9l gas engines? I was looking at the Hypertech Max Energy unit but the only engines they said anything about gains for were the diesels.

The average gain across the board is 10-15HP. It's a modest gain. Not worth $400, but worth $200. I did notice a slight increase in MPG, around 0.6-0.8. Thereare other advantages like raising the rev limiter and tire size adjustments and the abilityto read codes. The hypertech and superchips work the same, plug it in, tune it, unplug. I don't think you'll find anybody that can tell you for sure which is better, my guess is they're about the same. I would give the hypertech max energy a slight edgeas it is upgradeable. Superchips hasn't made a tuner that is net upgradeable for the 2nd gens as of yet.
It was a little more noticable for me than the average b/c I had the "Death Flash," a dealer authorized reprogram of the PCMto retard the timing to offsetmisfires due to aleakingplenum gasket. The superchips basically erased that and gained my original configuration back.

So I found a dyno chart on Hypertech's site. Is this all the gains we can expect? hmmm, might stop looking at the programer for it then. http://www.hypertech-inc.com/get_dyn...159&tp=pdf
