Default Steering wheel replacement

Okay. So I did a search and didnt find any posts on what i was looking for. When I bought mytruck from my brother the air bag had been deployed from the steering wheel. Needless to say it looks rough. I am in the process of totally changing out the interior of the truck and I want to buy a new steering wheel but from whatI have been able to find-there aint much to find! I'd rather not go dealer for a new steering wheel I'd rather stick with aftermarket and not have an air bag. I can find steering wheels all day long, the problem seems to be finding install kits. Anyone had any experience dealing with steering wheels?

Look for a new airbag on eBay or in the junkyard.

lool

Well since the thread had no replies, and i figured it would be no good to waste a new thread when the question's already been asked.

Just needed a lil BUMP!

Actually what i wanna know is, would the steering wheel from an 01 Ram fit in a 95 or 97?

Why not, as long as it has the same accessories like cruise and or radio controls, etc....

hold on a minute.
the original thread deals with a deployed airbag.
you didn't mention if yours has trigger or not......

if the original air bag deployed in a wreck...... then there are some crash sensors that need replacing, and some diagnostic work to be done so that you know they're going to work in the future.

look at the online junkyard listings on ebay. they are really good at listing the years that their parts fit. you can also see pics and shapes.

the 99 looks different from the other year which is unlisted.
it looks like its easier to buy the whole column than just the wheel. from that standpoint, older years don't fit newer years.

I think they want to go with the option to not repair the airbag and have no airbag like all the cars and trucks did for the first 75 years or so....its the same risk as driving a classic so I really dont think there's this dramatic need to pay for all the expensive things required to replace it...(srs unit is not resettable and also needs to be replaced according to the manual)
would it be better to have it? sure but no lift kit, tint, factory suspension and quieter factory stereos who be safer too...you get where I'm going with this??
The object is to hopefully never need it in the first place...
But then again I ride a motorcycle and that debunks the whole better safe than sorry theory. Hell my kitcar didnt even have proper seat belts when I bought it...

i personally dont like airbags...and i disabled the airbag system when i got the truck so that i wouldn't run into a problem like this.

Now thats the other extreme. What problem? It going off in a crash and possibly saving your life??...I fail to see the logic in purposely disabling something that may save your life and is already there, installed, paid for AND working?? but thats just me...
