axle gearing!?
I just scored a 95 ram 2500 with an auto tranny and V10. The truck revvs out at 2750 rpm's on the freeway at around 65 to 70 mph. This seems to be a bit high to me. The truck sounds like it's working pretty hard to stay at 70. I've assumed the problem is possibly towing gears in the rear end. I'm running the stock steel 16 inch rims with 255/70/16 tires and I think if the rear end has 4.10's in it, this would explain the problem. How do I verify what gears came in the rear diff?
If you call any Dodge dealership, ask for service department, and give them your VIN. They will be able to answer this question for you and many others as well, all based on that VIN.
Wow, thats pretty high RPMs at 70 mph with just 4.10 gearing.
Ihave 5.13 gears and mine is about that high in overdrive (I have a 5spd). Are you sure that OD is working on your tranny? It is one of the first things to start going out on atranny that is about to die, and being in 3rd gear would make sense with the RPM's you have if in fact you still have the stock 4:10 gearing.
I'd have it checked out because that sounds wrong.

I'd pop the cover off and see whats stamped on the ring. It'll say 41-10 or some other numbers. That means 41 teeth on the ring and 10 on the pinon, so 4.10's. It could also be lower, thats some really high R's for 70.
I took the truck to Aamco yesterday and had them run thru it. The previous satist, um, i mean owner wired in a rediculous sound system and tapped directly into the fuse panel. They upped the fuse to the tranny and botched the wiring. $95 dollars later, the tranny is running much smoother and shifting perfect. Problem is, the truck still revs high on the freeway. I clocked 3000 rpm's at 75 mph! I counted the trans shifts and I'm getting four of them with a good solid torque converter lockup after the fourth shift.
Another head scratcher is the OD lockout button on the dash. This is my first Ram but I safely assumed that when the truck is first started, the default is OD on and the button light off. You push the OD dash button, the light comes on and your OD is locked out. That is unfortunately the exact opposite of what the dash button is doing! I start the truck, the OD button light is off, the truck only shifts three times with a torque converter lockup at 50 mph. I push the OD button, the light comes on, the trans shifts four times but still revvs high. I have a good hunch that this truck is going to contribute to my eventual pattern baldness.

3000 at 75 means you were in 3rd gear.
When the torque converter locks up it should sound like the truck is shifting into 5th gear (although there is only 4, but that threw me off for along time.

Well a 4spd auto is only going to feel like it shifts four times and that with the torque converter lockup.
It starts out in first and then shifts to second (thats one shift), then it shifts to third (thatsthe second shift)then it shifts to OD (thats the third shift) and then the lockup occurs (that would be the fourth shift feeling).
So if you are actually counting 4 "shifts" it is doing what it is supposed to.
The 3000 RPM'sat 75mph is too many RPM's for 4.10 gears unless it either doesn't have 4.10's, or you are running a very small tire.
