I think I may venture in a similiar setup, though I want to run a single exit system.

What about running 3" with the stock manifolds?
That's what I currently have, as the 2001 came with stock 3" piping. It knuckled down at the cat and muffler, but I had those cut out and and installed 3" magnaflow cat and muffler straight thru the system. Got a 12" long 3" ID/4" OD rolled tip coming Thursday.

I'll be replacing the stock manifolds soon, Probably with Edelbrock Shorty Ceramic Coated headers, (maybe Gibsons if I'm looking to break the bank).
everything I'veread up on headers isleading me to believethat unless your really modding the engine, (and we're talking 450hp+) long tubes don't do much better performance wise than a good set of shorties, and with the mild crap that I've done I've come to the realization that I won't be breaking any land speed records with my truck anytime soon.

Harland Sharp 1.7's are on the list next,
then edelbrock headers
mod the intake runners (next summer, getting too cold to hang out for another6 hours)
A B&G flash, or maybe the SCT tuner (again, the SCT tuner might be a bit much for my wimpy mods)

Then it'll probably be on to regular maintenance and someupgraded looks.

As far as I know, they are for "offroad" use only. Pretty much anything badass is labeled as illegal or offroad only...GAY. I'm still getting them though

No, but technically at least half of the mods we all do aren't "street legal". As I always say, "It's only illegal if you get caught."
