i say
keep ATF+4 by mopar in it.
Chrysler does not approve of or recommend any additives in the tranny.
i say keep ATF+4 in it.
another reason is that you would be mixing whatever is left in the Torque converter and case and clutch packs in it and mixing it
with royal purple full synthetic... you might stilll have ATF+3 in yours...
You have a
A518/46RE
4 speed automatic electronically controlled.

here is a diy i did on this
https://dodgeforum.com/m_901049/tm.htm
use ATF +4 (older books will say ATF+3 but +4 has superseeded it)
pop the cover off, clean the magnet on the bottem of the trans pan, change the filter, if your comfortable with it, adjust the bands.....juat follow the DIY

if its a 97 you have a 46RH NOT a 46RE (Hydraulic not Electronic controlled shift)
94-97 http://dodgeram.org/tech/transmission/4xrh.htm
98-01 http://dodgeram.org/tech/transmission/4xre.htm
build sheet would tell you too but you can also use tose 2 links to determan the tranny type

since this is a transmission post, maybe someone can give me some advice. I thought my u-joints were going out, so i got under the truck andtwisted the driveshaft witht the truck in park. No play or slack at all. So i am thinking rear driveshaft u-joints are fine. Moving on to the front driveshaft, when i twisted it,(it spun around since it wasnt in 4wd), but i noticed a clicking sound in the transfer case/ transmission when iturned it. not sure exactly wheresound was coming from. I was wondering if this was normal or something i should be worried about. When i drive the truck i have a constant clicking noise that speeds up with the speed of the truck. Thanks in advance for any help.
