Helpful Tool Ideas
I was thinking the other day about handy things I have in my toolbox that I would not want to be without when working on my truck. So I thought I would start a list in order to get other ideas of helpful things that can be use while working on our trucks.
1-Easy Car Mirror Repair Kit,
It can be cut to fit in tight spots so you can see what’s going on.

a solid 4way lug wrench,, nice TALL lifting floor jack..(i love my craftsman aluminum race jacks) with stands
a really good drop light.. ive been having a hard time finding a good one that stays where you put it.. craftsman had flo and led ones with magnates but the engineering on them was lacking... still hunting for a good one
w/ my truck lifted i love using a creeper with a tray to throw tools and parts into ... picked up the bonester with the big rollerblade style wheels and bearings.. built for us "bigger" fellas.. works awesome
hand tools wise.. a really good set of breaker bars helps ALOT....them wrachet wrenches from craftsman are priceless... use them ALL the time
a TAP and DIE set OFTEN comes in handy.. also a master Rethreader set helps too... especially when you need to just clean up threads and not cut new ones
and a Miller mig welder... of course

RE: Helpful Tool Ideas
Well you have the right idea about looking at your tool box and wanting to be preparred, but when I was wrenching as a RV Tech (I'm the service manager now), my motto was if I had to borrow another tech's tools more than once to get a job done, then it was something I needed to have and so I would go out and buy one.
I still use that same logic for my new hobby (my truck). If I have to rent a tool once to do something I may never do again, or not have to do for a very long time, I'm ok with that. But if I needed that tool twice for any reason, thenI will buy it.
As far as specifics for your truck, my advice is start wrenching on your truck and your tool box will grow in time. But don't be afraid to ask to borrow or rent something once. If your asking more than once, you not only need to buy that tool, but your being a pain in the *** toothers.
Now get out there and maintain your truck!

Buy a drain pan, or 2 or even three, or just keep lots of buckets around. wire brushes, and when travelling, i always have a rag, my mastercraft socket and wrench set, my 4 way breaker bar, booster cables and flashlight and extra fluids fluids. along with the factory bottlejack and handle kit. at home, i have my heavy duty floor jack and then the smaller 2 ton for lifting the truck then lowering transmissions or lifting them up.
