Ram Ticking Problem
I have a 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 magnum 5.2 i recentley got a new exhuast the truck sat for 2 weeks and i have been starting it here and there but now it started ticking its a constant tick all the fluids are fine when i moved it up my dirveway it took more gas to get the truck to move (still handles and drives fine) The RPMs were higher (no lights are on in the dash)
any suggestion would be greatley appreciated
suggestions from a friend was the valves were loose and need to be tigheted on top
other suggestion was my oil pump

Well...if you just got a new exhaust system, it's probably a leak in somewhere in the new exhaust.. It's pretty common with new exhaust systems, find the leak and have whoever put it in for you fix the problem
Did you change the air intake? This is important when you change the exhaust, the engine needs to not only breath out better but it needs to breath in better as well. If you don't gas millage will suffer. And I agree with 20dodgeneon especially if the system was bolted and not welded check for leaks. Valves really don't have to be adjusted they are hydrolic unless you really beat the crap out of the truck and bent something.
i read in the haynes manual that the valves do not need adjusting unless you change your rockers, in that case you turn the crank to where the 2 marks align- thus top dead center- so def not valves unless you bent or broke one-chevys though are notorious for needing to be adjusted on the older models. Tha reason it was tough to move was because of it sitting the brakes sat in one spot. My truck does the exact thing when i come back into town. As for the tick.... it and the electrical might be in common, check your fuses.- In the past 4 or 5 trucks i have come across, the headlight switch get really hot for somereason and melt the plastic and cause the switches to go out fast- try that for if the fuses are good- lmk if you need help on checking that switch- i am a PRO at replacing them lol

yea it sounds liek a leaky spot somewhere and it will make you think you have a collapsed lifter, just get under and listen for the tick along your exhaust system, youll feel the hot air around the leak, it doesnt have to be a large hole neither so keeps your ears peeled
could also be a sticky lifter if it was fine then all of a sudden it started making this sound . If it is not a exhaust leak try a product called wynns engine tune up the stuff works awsome !! It frees stickey lifters like there is no tomorow !!
good luck
