And ive heard tips make it louder and ive heard it doesnt do anything. I really would like to know the truth behind that.

 

Yes tips do help the sound of the exhaust depends on length and width.. (thats what she said)....LOL

 

LOL nice one.. Ok so say i went with like a 4" by 22" long tips? How does it change the sound, or rather whats it change? Does it make it deeper, louder?

 

I was reading this thread because I am also interested in swaping exhaust on my truck. Most opinions here are how the mufflers sound but nothing about performance. Does anybody know how the various mufflers stack up in terms of backpressure or flow rates? I am presuming that all things being equal higher flow = lower backpressure should produce more power if everything is tuned. I have looked a little bit and have not found the kind of info that nails down the performance end of things. Anybody know of a site or datebase that compares the choices out there? Tom

 

Magnaflow catback w/ dual rear exit. $400 ish but the fitment is near perfect ( i screwed upjoining two of the pipes and mistakes with exhaust can be hard to fix.) and its loud when you want it to be (full throttle) and pretty mellow at idle. I had open manifolds for the longest time but that got annoying when you were trying to come home at night after a long night of partying and i didnt want to sound like i was trying to win the winston cup everytime i was getting on the highway anymore.

 

I have true duals now and it runs great. 2 1/4 off the manifols into dual highflow cats and into a flowmaster dual indual out with just 2 1/2 tail pipes out each side. Notobscenely loud but has a nice clean throaty sound when your on it.

 

My system is pretty similar to PA's. I used to have the 3"in/out magnaflow cat, but then I just had it gutted. Then it dumps into a 3"inlet/2.5" dual outlet Flowmaster SUPER 44 muffler, and then out dual 22"x4" tips from magnaflow. It is very loud, very obnoxious, very droney, and just the way i like it. Here's a couple vids to give you an idea. I reckon she'll only get louder once I get the longtube headers and the offroad y pipe, and the cold air intake kit[8D]
