Default trans compatability?

i have a 98 ram 1500 w/ a 5.2
just bought a replacment trans , what came out was a 46re
the business i got it from gave me a 47re and told me there is no real difference,
once it was installed only drives in second and reverse and wont go into park

is there a difference in the two mechanically or electrically all the harness plugs seem to be the same but the bellhousing dust cover i had doesnt work on the 47re

are the two interchangable or not?

thanks for any info you can offer![:@]

i know from past experience i have had to have a ecu or pcm that goes with that transmission- its like if you take out a 5.9 and put in a 5.2 you have to change the copmuters too

The second number is the duty raiting, so 47RE is suppose to be a bit beefier then a 46RE.

Locate an ECM for that engine/tranny/year combination and you should no longer have the issue.

The 47RE trans is for a diesel truck, This trans will not work. The torque converter has 6 bolts to hold the converter.
