carbon fiber hoods?
I've looked around, I'm thinking of replacing the OEM hood and hardware (brackets and latch) to reduce weight for mpg, I seem to get the cheapest right at 500...
Is that normal, I mean, or does anyone know where I can find for less?
Not concerned about color, does have to be useful, if it costs 4-500 then I have to accept that, just thought I'd ask.

How much weight loss will the carbon fiber hood give you? I only ask because I think a tonneau cover would help mpg a little better than replacing the hood and you could save yourself some money.
Tonneau covers don't help with mpg they did it on Mythbusters. They hurt it because of the added weight. With their experiments best mpg was with nothing on the top of the bed and the tailgate closed.

I rember myth busters doing the tail gate up or down but never seen the one with tonneau covers .. Just did a search on mythbusters to see if they did do one with tonneau covers.. and no search found ... that myth is BUSTED !!!
The weight savings wouldnt be worth the price. It will take years for that to pay for itself, and youll have years of an ugly *** hood to deal with.
as far as tonneau covers are concerned...I was able to do a little more aerodynamic testing today in the snow. Tailgate up vs tailgate down, there was almost no diffrence, there was no flow into the bed whatsoever. the truck is a brick, and always will be.

Season 4 episode 64 they revisited the tailgate up vs. tailgate down myth. In addition to tailgate up/down, also tested hardcover over pickup bed, tailgate removed, and tailgate mesh. Tailgate mesh was most efficient by 5%. So they did test tonneau covers. Check your search.
I check my own search with my truck and my soft cover gave me about 1 mpg.. ok i found it all they did was tailgates ? nothing about a tonneau cover? if you have it link us with the cover
