Default TB "sucking" Please help me to understand.

What is my tb supposed to sound like? When idling it makes a constant sucking tone, pretty noticable. It sounds like it might even be a vaccum leak. Whether it has the stock air box or my CAI it is still loud. Everyone asks me why it sounds like that. I think it might be causing some power robbing. And yes I do have the rubber gasket seated between the air box and tb. While driving the sucking gets worse upon acceleration. I'm not sure I've ever heard a vehicle sound like this. Is it possible I have a clogged AIC, or a problem with my TPS? I had this truck in the dealer about 3 mo ago and the tech said I needed that gasket. I'm not convinced he knew what the problem was. I agree I need that gasket but it did nothing for the sucking. Not only is this annoying but I also think there is something wrong. Please help me understand this.

check the gasket between the air cleener and TB, if its borke replace it, if its missing replace it

i made my own because the stock one wouldn't seal, just used some of that tick cork gasket making material so its a lot thicker and cushier, seals better now

+1

Also, check and make sure you have a gasket between the intake manifold and the TB itself. Also check thelong plastic ribbed hose going into the MAP sensor at the front of the TB. The connecting tube is made of rubber and mine got badly cracked and made a sucking sound as well.

I have had the same problem since I bought my truck. It seems as though it gets better when the truck warms up. I have replaced the gasket 2 times and it seems as though it is sealed just fine. The sound is coming from my IAC. It is also new(and sealed with the supplied o-ring). Its like the thing just doesnt close far enough when the truck is cold or "somthing" is telling it to open a little. No idea how you fix it though.

Thanks for the info guys,
The gasket between the tb is new and sealed tight. I couldn't tighten the cai down any tighter. There is also a gasket between the tb and the intake, I'll check on that, maybe time for a new one. (Very simple replacement). I heard that the IAC might stick and cause this sucking. Maybe I'll just replace it. 130000 miles pro'ly time for a new one anyway. Also will check the plastic hose to the MAP. It's wierd at certain RPM's it sounds like the sucking goes "flat". That's the best description I can give. When this happens it seems there is a loss of power unless I slam the gas pedal down. Whatever this is causes a loss of power. I can rarely break my tires loose. I certainly should be able to do better than that.

A blown plenum gasket is considered a large vac leak and robs the engine of power.

Abad PCV valve can cause weird problems, also check your accessory vac line that connected to the mainfold on the middle near the fuel rail and the T that runs futher down the line for leaks. There's a small rubber connection on the MAP sensor as well that helps monitor the pressure in the manifold, cant see it unlessyou take the sensor off or turn the TB upside down.

My roundA/C makes a whooshing sound, but not a whistle maybe that's what your hearing from the CAI, though my stock box never did that. I kind of like it.

As soon as it stops snowing around here I'll get to it. These are all good ideas. I do have a plenum leak. That is probably the problem. I was told it was slight though. What can I expect for a repair cost? Dealer quoted $800.

I also have a power issue, after i get out of second gear it seems that i have no power under my foot unless i give it a good push or floor it. Also i have an odd sound not really sure how to describe it but it sounds like air rushing when i accelerate.
