ahhhh my butt feels better
I'm buying long tubes. I need someone to install the exhaust since I have very little welding skill and I doubt that I could weld an exhaust. I went to master muffler they wante 920 F'in bucks. So I thought ok I'll go to the local 4x4 shop they want930 F'in bucks. What the hell. I'll be cutting down thewhole exhaust and installing the headers myself I just need them to bend and weld the ****ing pipes. Damn bastards.
can you beleive that two differnt places same price. It couldn't be that hard. If I provide the mufflers it will only knock it down by 300$ That's still 600$. I think I'm going to learn to weld very quickly.
If all else fails, bolt the headers on yourself, leave the rest of the exhaust piping off of them, then go in to a muffler shop and ask them to fix it saying you dont know whats wrong with it lol (I bet theyll charge $100 bucks cause seriously, any mechanic that thinks they have to charge more to attach piping to a the headers already on there should be punched in the face)

Damn! Where the hell do you live? I paid $250(?) for a new exhaust for my truck including the cat and muffler.

That is absolutely insane!!! Forget them! I paid $60 at a local shop to weld all of mine together except the headers to the y-pipe (didn't want them to have to grind away at the ceramic coating) and add a 48" piece of 2-1/2" as a step down custom bent (by them) tailpipe from the 3" exhaust in front of the muffler. I bought 2 stainless steel band clamps from Summit to attach the headers to the y-pipe.
My problem is that I'm a perfectionist when it comes to things I can alter, so I ended up cutting their 2-1/2" tailpipe off and moved the muffler foreward. I paid $40 the second time to have them weld the muffler back on and install a 3" turndown out of the muffler. I paid CASH and took no receipt, but I think their regular rates are about what I paid anyway.
I have since changed the piping again, so I bought more stainless steel band clamps from Summit. They work surprisingly well. I got a few more of them since I keep tweeking my exhaust setup to get the sound I'm looking for. These clamps cost around $9 for the 3" butt joint and around $14 for the 3" slip-fit joint clamp. If you can't find anyone to weld it for a more reasonable fee, these band clamps don't really cost that much and they seem to work quite well.

Wow that is nuts. I mean when I bought my exhaust I had the exhaust shop install it for me for $200. I supplied them with the cat, muffler, and tips. So it was a little pricey for the piping, but it was all welded and done right. I've since then had them quote me for the long tube headers installation, and he says $175 to install the headers and the y-pipe and to but it up with the existing exhaust system. So we're looking at $425 for an entirely completely exhaust system. These people are not only asking for double, but their quote is very unjust. That's why I was afraid to do it all at once. When someone sees you are having them do a big job, they jack that **** right up. Now that I'm coming back 4 months later with headers, it's a seperate job, and they will be focused on that specific job. I don't know if this is the case or not with you yet. Do you have an existing exhaust system on right now that you'll have the headers butted up to? Or are you wanting it all done at once. I think if it were going to be all done at once, I'd expect probably around $650, because it's a lot more of mental job. You'd have to remove the manifolds, the stock y-pipe, take off the existing exhaust system, then install the headers, the new y-pipe,the new cat, new muffler, new piping etc. etc. So I think psychologically, a mechanic would jack the price a bit if it were all at once, but NOTHING in that range, that's oburd man. Sorry their jerking ya rod like that, that's just queer!
Damn! if there are retards in Utah that will pay that kinda money im movin up there toopen a muffler shop. even at half their price that would be good money! hopefully my welding class this next semester will be as fun as it seems!!
ive been charged 20 bucks to just replace the cat(supplied the cat myself) and my buddy paid 150 for SS tips and glasspack cat back.. gotta LOVE TEXAS!!
