I block my whole radiator in the winter time with card board, or if you wanted to get stylish you get restrictive grille inserts

there is also a 'blend door' near the heater core
that can malfunction
either by just lack of vacuum due to a leak
or due to wear at the pivots

on the Dodge Ram heat/ac system
the hot coolant flows through the heater core all the time
and the blend door is what directs heat into the cab

go to this older post at the end
and download the
2001 Ram Field Service Manual (FSM) pdf file
for instructions on how to repair the blend door:

My heater core works, my thermostat works. my vaccum works. I can change from cold to warm, Why is it my warm is very faint and not HOT. Why did it only blow warm air on the driver side defrost and not the passenger. Why is it not coming out at a high power? The motor is working fine!! Im puzzled!

Its your heater core everyone, thats what it is. I was puzzled at first. I thought it was the thermostat or a clogged line. Mine had a small leak, not even enough for coolant to leak on the carpet. My truck would hardly put out heat. I changed the heater core, and wow, i have to keep the control more on cold than heat in order to even stay in the truck. The heater core is behind the glove box. Be prepared to pull the whole dash and everything out. Its a six hour job without amanual and trying to figues out what to do, but you will need to have your A/C pumped down cause you will have to remove the a/c lines. The heater core is like $60 at O'Reillys. Be prepared for hard work is all i can tell you. Also make sure you have someone to help you take the dash assembly out. Its heavy

Go through this entire thread and read my responses. I have stated twice that it is the heater core, but junior wants to keep complaining and hope someone comes along and gives him an easy answer to the problem. FREAKING DIG INTO THE SITUATION. He's asked, "I just wish someone had the same problem and could relate with their solution." Well, it has been several times. He must be part of what I call the under-25 crowd who wants someone to hold his hand and solve all of his problems, rather than think them through and DO SOMETHING on his own. With all of time he's spent pissing and moaning I could have had his heater core replaced and transmission rebuilt

The only reason i didnt go with your heater core idea was the mechanic i took it too says its good! I wont lie i dont know how to do this swap, i dont know whats what and i bust my *** 40 hours a week for 8.50 and hour with no money to pay for it or the extra time on my hands!!

I just figured that wasnt it since a professional told me it was good.
