I'm having this same problem. My heater core is okay, so I'm assuming my coolant needs to be flushed. When I have my header's installed my mechanic is going to do the reverse flush on my coolant. I'll let ya know if it helps.

I'm sure someone else will chime in on this.

do you have a 180 tstat?

could be low on coolant/air pockets in the coolant.. weak water pump.. clogged heater core

I'm thinking either the t-stat is bad or the heater core is bad.

I just had a problem with my heat not being as hot as it used to be and taking forever to get warm. When it finally got warm it was no where near as hot as it used to be pretty quickly. I took it to a shop yesterday and he said he was checking it and the engine never got over 155 degrees. He determined that the water pump wasn't putting out the flow it was supposed to and that it was freezing cold by the time it got to the truck. He said he wasn't suprised I didn't have heat. He was supposed to put a water pump and t-stat on it last night or this morning. I'm hoping to pick it up today.

On my truck I knew it was getting up to full temp, I could hear the blend door opening and closing when I changed the temp control in the truck so I figured it was a plugged heater core.

I just drained and flushed my system, then took bothheater hoses off and flushed both directions through my heater core. I didn't have any distilled water to mix with the anti-freeze when I replaced my water pump and I think the "hard" water here started plugging up my heater core.Heat works much better now and this time I used distilled water to mix with my anti-freeze.

Got mine back and mine doesn't seem to get any warmer than it did when I took it in. This is a little upsetting as I just spend slightly over $500 on this with parts and labor and I can't really tell a difference.

Disconnect the hoses from the engine and run water from garden hose thru heater core. How much water flows out?
