my buddy has a 2001 1500 ram with the 5.9L V-8 gas. he is having problems with the transmission not wanting to stay in lockup. he has been to the dealer numerous times and had diagnostics down. the tps has been replaced twice and that fixes it for a couple of days and it goes right back. i know on my uncles 99 2500 with the ctd he had a similar problem but it only did it between 40-45 mph and turned out to be the output shaft speedsensor.my buddies does it any speed. any ideas on what is causing this?

first check brake light switch on brake pedal.
Very common problem.
Check all connections going into transmsision case and all wiring leading up to it.
Check OD OFF button wiring on gear selector.

 

Are there any codes or ck engine lite on? If you have no ck engine lite on or codes, replace the brake switch. there has been a problem for with the switches for some time. Just XXL 1500 had said in post # 2.

 

check engine light is on.

 

cycle key on, off, on, off, on - and the DTC will show up in the digital odometer, post here your findings. - shoule ba code like " P0740 "

 

well my buddy decided to just put in a new tranny. hoping that that will put an end to the problems. if that doesn't work i will let you guys know. i will still try to get the code to you guys i'm curious what the problem is.
