Default Tire pressure?

Im not exactly sure what the recommended amount of pressure is for the tires that I have. They are M/T Dick Cepeks 325 80R16. I've looked on the manufacturers website but it only says that the max is 50 psi. So my question is.......what is a good psi rating for the tires that I have. I am currently in Virginia if that helps as far as weather interference.

I'd say around 35 is a safe bet unloaded. for tires that big obviously you could get away with alot less. Your best bet is to draw a chalk line across the tires and drive on it for awhile. If the outside wears away first, put more air in, if the middle wears away first let some air out. Once it all wearsout equally that's what you want to run unloaded. Your front tires will probably need about 5-6 pounds more than your back tires because of teh weight in the front.

I have never seen a tire that did not give you a cold fill and max loadpressure. Should tell you on the sidewall. Most people dont know that the recommended tire pressure is for best ride. If you add a couple extra lbs. it will give you better gas mileage. There was a big write up on tires in one of my car mags.

I wouldn't run them at 55 unless they're under load. You'll probably wear the center treads out of them pretty quickly.

I think it's personal preference... I run my 33's @ 50~54 psi (54 for the front) and have had great results with it. only downside is the ride is stiffer. but hey, it's a 3/4 ton truck not a caddy.

What about the stock sixe? 265/75/16's? The tire side wall says Max cold 50, and the sticker in teh door says 50 psi, but that's for the 225's. I put them at 40 cold unloaded. So far I've been getting fine wear. They arn't wearing abnormally, but the rear's still look new. The fronts are showing slight wear. They were new almost 10k miles ago. When I hit that 10k, I will rotate them, cause the are On-Off road. But does 40 seem good? Ride isn't important to me. Like steve said, it's a truck, not a caddi.

Should I move the front's to 44? or 45? I didn't even think about the fact that the front should be alittle higher. Brain fart I guess. But then again, I'm used to 4 and small 6 cyl's.

I'm not saying for everyone but PA has swampers, and I've heard alot more susccess stories as far as mileage goes from running them at lower air pressures. On aless agreesive treadedtire it's not as big of a deal.
