Default Carquest Water pump

Got a brand new Water Pump from Central Auto/Carquest, and it came with a generic gasket. Anyone know if they're good to use or should I add some sealant?

all water pumps I have ever used with a flat surface gasket, you're supposed to use sealant. only time not use sealant are those rubber gaskets that might fit in a groove 9and those are not in our trucks).

I heard of a Mopar gasket that had sealant embedded in it. Didn't sell me that one though, lol.

I have used pematex brown, blue stuff, gold stuff, and Indian. Prep your work well, be carefull when you scrape. Torque the bolts to 30 ft. lbs. (41 newton meters). You have to use a break away type torque wrench. Make it click twice. Follow a pattern. Chilton's will get you through it. Yes you have to pull the radiator, cowl, overflow and wiperwasher, etc. The ac compressor lays to the side.

CAUTION: You can break the water temp sensor on the top of the motor. (ask me how I know this) You must buy the short waterpump backflow hose, and do the thermostat.

So looks like I need to make another trip to get a hose? Is the technical term backflow hose? and sealant. Any kind of ATV, or the highest rated? Not sure how hot the water pump gets, but I figure the higher temp rated the better. If I recall that was the red/brown kind?

the short hose is called the water pump bypass hose. its about 4 inches long and about 1-1/2 in diameter. it doesn't really matter which color rtv, they are all fine. if there are any long bolts that go into the block and into the water jackets i put rtv on those threads too.

Well I'll check at the auto store whenever I get there for the bypass hose and sealant. How about that royal purple ice stuff? Should I add that to the radiator after I flush the coolant?
