Well I cleaned the IAC and TB, and the idle was fine. Just about an hour ago it went back to crap and fluttering and jumping at red lights. This is maddening. I have to stop 10-15 ft away from people to make sure i don't hit them.

you may need a new a iac....cleaning it only covers the problem for so long, it's just like any other electric motor....it'll go bad eventually...

torque converter clutch...there's no way to adjust it. it's a clutch that elimiates the slipping affect of the torque converter at highway speeds to get better gas miliage...it's computer controlled...generally when thatgoes out, your truck will just die at an intersection just like you never let off the clutch on a manual car when coming to a stop

It did die once at an intersection, but I wasn't driving it. The ONE time I rode in the back of the extended cab (talk about weird) and my dad drove it, it died at an intersection. He has bad luck with autos not produced from GM though.

i've never had any luck cleaning IAC's. For $40, just replace them.
Last winter my truck started surging at idle. i removed tb and cleaned it and iac - no help. replaced iac and it fixed it. about a month ago it started surging again. again i cleaned iac - again no help. again i replaced it - fixed. so i'll never attempt cleaning it again. i think its a waste of time.

I have agree with DVaughn I tried cleaning my IAC and it did ok for a while however I went ahead and replaced it and it worked fine. Also how is your upper and lower intake gaskets? While the engine is off open the TB blades and check inside for oil. If there's some in there then your intake gaskets needs replacing and believe me it makes a world of difference.
