The 5.9 will swap in place of the 5.2 basically as an engine swap. You will need to use the 5.9 crankshaft damper and flexplate as the 5.9 is externally balanced and the 5.2 is not. I'm not positive about the EGR system, but you may also need to swap the 5.2 intake manifold and exhaust manifolds onto the 5.9.

As far as the trannies are concerned I think your computer may have issues. The 3/4 ton 98 used a different tranny completely than the 95 1/2 ton.

The 5.2 computer from your truck will run the 5.9 engine, but it will run better with a 5.9 computer for a 1500 from 1995.

I believe he'd want a 98's 1500 computer and lose the EGR altogether, wouldn't he? The egr hole can be plugged on both the intake and the exhaust, then you don't need to worry about that stupid little unit breaking.

Either way the computer needs to match the current tranny as well.

Also is your truck a 4X4 or 2WD? If 4X4 the transfer case is different between the 1500 and 2500's. Even without 4X4 there might be an issue with the length of the driveshaft to the rear differential depending on the differences between the 2500 and 1500 trannies.

the 2500 is a rust bucket....the previous owner spraypainted it black...it looks like crap. He also cut the exhaust of in front of the cat...he cut all the o2 sensors out too. I wander if it would be easier to swap the bodies. and if i did that what all would that involve?

Easy swap. just like he said everything else will work. Your stock comp. injectors. intake, even if yougot egr. itdont matter, motor mounts everything else. 1 day that all! I have done it. So basicly the short block.
