Gas Millage!
Well guys....
I know these gas prices are hittin all of us hard... I having a 5.9L v8 and all is really hurtin. Is there anyway i can boost the millage in my truck up? My average since i have been drivin nice is about 10.3, I pretty sure my gearing is 3.55, and im pushin 33's. Ya ya ya i know its a half ton truck with a monster motor in it but it seems a bit ridiculous. you guys have any suggestions to maybe give me another mile or two??

Sure can, but a few of them probably cost more than the worse gas mileage will cost you.
First take your airintake system off, the unbolt your throttle body, then get yourself a flashlight and a mirror and peek around insize your intake manifold for pooled up oil. If you see any your plenum gasket is leaking. It's a fairly easy repair and I don't believe the the new gasket is very expensive either.
Second thing, make sure your catalytic converter is not plugged up. Knock on it. make sure you don't here any rattling noise. If you have access to a temperature gun, Check the intake and the out take.
Thirdly, new rear end gears. If it's a 4x4 you need 2 sets. 33" tires and 4.10 gears are a little more matched. However I can honestly say It's not worth the cost. I have 33s on 3.55 and my mileage may have went from 16 to 15 over it. Now if you go up to 35s or bigger than I deffinetly reccomend this step.
- Change your oil, run a good synthetic like Amsoil or Royal Purple, Castrol also makes a good synthetic
- Get smaller tires 265/75/16 or even 245/75/16
- Make sure your front O2 sensor isn't bad. The rear one isn't really important, but if the front one is damage it will shoot the fuel mixture all to hell
- Keep your ****ing foot off the gas Mario Andretti
- Get a less restrictive air intake system. I've heard it can improve mileage. I'm not really sure that mine did, definetly better throttle response though...
- Lose weight, ditch the spare tire, take theair conditioning system out, lose the tailgate for one of those net type ones.

13 is about the average MPG reported by 2nd Gen Rams in mixed city driving.
With winter gas and colder temperatures the MPG can drop 1-2 even if the truck is healthy, especially if it is city driving.
Here's a long read on real ways to improve MPG:
https://dodgeforum.com/m_447500/tm.htm
in a nutshell
to quickly improve MPG in winter with the two easiest mods,
install an electric block heater
and buy a second set of tires that are low rolling resistance
like:
Bridgestone Dueler H/T (D684)
Michelin Cross Terrain
Continental ContiTrac
BF Goodrich Radial Long Trail T/A

makes me glad I got the 5.2L. I'm averaging about 15.5MPG at the moment. things I've read that i plan on doing to help is to get a soft tonneu cover and a fastmann throttle body. I also did the Silver Dodge round air cleaner mod which seems to have netted me another mile per so far, but im only on my third tank of gas since doing that so its hard to tell
better MPG ???
1. tire pressure
2. sysn oil in crankcase , diffs , trans
3. lighter foot...
4. electric fans
5. waxing , keep unwanted weight out of bed and truck , tonneau cover
Now for the goodies that will help MPG but cost $$$$ and take some time to cover from cost
headers , highflowcat , muffler , gears , upgrade ingition , TB ,
soon i hope to get my 15+ MPG back plus the added power..

Has anybody tried the fuel miser reprogram from B&G..says should gain 1-4 mpg...I average 12.5 mpg, but live in the NC mountains and always (ALWAYS) driving up or down, so I can't complain, and it has the Richard Petty signture series engine upgrades which means about 500hp...

I would really love to increase my MPG as well. Right now I'm averaging 9-10mpg depending on what I'm doing. It can be depressing at times if I'm low on money. You really have to have a destination where your going. Driving around aimlessly or leaving your vehicle running in a parking lot aren't options anymore. It's almost silly how fast my tank goes down from a full tank. I always use 93 octane, so I already burn more out the pump, but it's almost like it happens so quick with the gas plummit. One minute I'm at a full tank, and the next it's at a quarter tank. Really though, it's the gas prices that make us think more. Trucks have always been this bad, but now since we know less gas means filling back up, and paying more at the pumps, we just get sick about it, especially if you don't have a lot of money to play with. It can be hard, trying to keep up with modding a vehicle, paying for gas, paying for food, paying for a house, and just being able to drive around. Sometimes I get a little overwhelmed. Sometimes I just park the truck for a day or two a week where I just clean the house up really good to get my mind off not being able to drive the truck so save some bucks and heartache lol. The thing that sucks is I know I like this truck too much to ever consider getting rid of it, so the best thing you can do is take care of it. Use all the best fluids, run higher octane fuel in it, and just keep on top of maintenance. I really would like to do a tune-up in the spring as well (spark plugs and wires etc.). Other than that, just figure a system out that works for you. Gas does suck, and these engines are constantly sucking its fingers with it lmao, but thankfully they are some sweet *** trucks!

20DN00...You really don't need the higher octane fuel and may gain a mpg or 2 running what dodge recommends (which I think is 87) My personnal experiance I had honda CRX Si that I used for autocrossing and used 91 or better, after talking to a few racers that seem to know their stuff they said the same thing and after a couple of tanks of the regular stuff the car did run a little better and I didn't test it but it did seem to go a little longer between fill-ups..just my 2 cents..Now once you do your to come list you may have to run the higher stuff..
I would go back to the stock sized tires of 245/75/16 you will get your 2mpg back.
Give it a tune up if it hasn't had one in a while 60K or so.
You need to think of how long you want to keep this truck before getting the best MPG truck out there...
Then do some cost analysis...
Add-on costs vs. gas cost over 3yrs.
Gas here is at $3.24 for the watered down stuff.
I drive 10.1 miles one way to work. I spend about $60-65 a week in gas. I used to drive a 02 Golf and would commute 45miles one way and I paid less than what I pay in my truck a week.
