Are you so sure they do?

I've never had one hooked up to me and I live in Euless. That's still the metroplex and subject to the high density urban area inspection.

The only thing the CAT does is burn off excess gas that comes from the engine unburnt, if your engine's running right, it shouldn't matter anyway. That's why I would suspect 20dodgeneon00 has something more wrong with his engine when he says it stinks out the rear more than normal exhaust. If it wasn't for that post cat 02 sensor, your truck wouldn't even care if it had a CAT on it or not.

ok.

here in CA.

no CEL
working gas cap
working emissions equip.
hook it up to the gas analyzer.
measure HC (unburned gas) and CO (carbon monoxide)
both of these readings have to be within or below a certain amount.
measure at idle
measure at 2500rpm
measure on dyno with engine under load. (45mph if i remember right)

MANY of my friends have just paid off the smog guy.
he runs his bone stock ford explorer or expedition or w/e next to the car and just sticks the probe in his truck..

my friend passed smog with his 240ZX with a 383 Stroker in it..
wonder how that happened... LOL

and another passed in his mustang which comes stock with 6 cats, and he has longtubes and an offroad x-pipe
how'd that happen?? =]

money talks.

Ain't that the truth.

Anytime you want to get away with something illigal you gotta grease the right palms.

I inspect my own , and yes it legal .. PA emmisions get hook up on the computer as long there isno CEL or a bad gas cap you pass. the rest is on sight , cat has to be there but no way of testing if its gutted or not
Myknow of a friend whohas a 97 1500 sport with a gutted cat and passes emissions i hear. But when they switched to obd II, does that make a difference since I am an 01? I also live in PA, and when the truck gets inspected, they use a wand that checks the exhaust. I have been told by some that you can run gutted, and others say you cannot pass with it gutted. They do the visual, and emissions. We all know about the o2 sims, but I would like to find out once and for all if I go out and gut my stock cat right now, and get my truck inspected tonight, that she will pass with out a doubt.
A '97 will be OBD2 as will the '01. Almost all vehicles (the exceptions being heavy duty/specialized trucks) sold new from 1996-on in the US are OBD2.

How do I get out of emissions testing? I live in NC but I'm a FL resident so I don't have any state inspection, emissions, anything. Or income tax. Oh, how I love the state of Florida...

yeah, not on a performance dyno, just a cheaper dyno (the ones that measure performance are way more expensive) used as a "road simluator" if you will to get the engine under load.

and unfortunatly not
