Default What Gas Milage are you getting?

I'm learning toward getting a Dodge, but gas milage is a concern from me. Rumor has it Dodge is supposed to get poor gas milage compaired to others. Is this at all true? What mileage are you getting from your pickup and what mods have you done (gears, lift, tires, etc). I am wanting to buy a gas since diesel is more expensive, even though it gets better mileage.

Thanks!

I get 16.4 and as high as 18. I have a stock 95 Ram Extended cab. I drive well over 90% highway, and 55. My question to you is why are you buying a truck? Most trucks have large engines and the basic 5.9,5.2 were never ment to be economy cars! I don't buy cars based on gas mileage. So, if you want a great truck get a Dodge, if you want mileage, get a Jetta TDi.

If I didn't need 4x4 for winter snow and driving in the field I would probably buy a car. I live on a farm so 4x4 and light towing is required.

same here. but unfortunately the ol dodge is my main vehicle and it drinks gas like pig. Mileage also seems to drop in the winter but i think it drops in all vehicles

Well these trucks do have about all the towing power you could ask for.
I get about 15 mpg highwway 13 around town. 10 in 4 wheel drive, and I've gotten as bad as like4mpg in 4 lo but that was all offroad mileage.

Dodges don't get very good mpg. If the truck is healthy your looking at 13 mpg in a 5.9 1500 and maybe 15-16 in the 5.2. I have a 1500 5.9 4x4 HD Quad Cab Long bed with the towing package. The towing package comes with 3.92 gears. I have 33" tires currently. I also recently did a bunch of mods so I'm not sure what I'm getting right now. before the mods I was getting 12.5. I'm 24 so sometimes I drive like an *** wich makes a huge difference in gas. After the mods I'm hoping for 14 but, I'm not going to hold my breath since the mods make you want to use the skinny pedel more. The dodge by far is the best truck/vehicle I've ever owned. Most of the work on it is very easy to do. There isn't to many issues with these trucks except maybe the transmission which if you take care of it will last plenty long. If I could make a suggestion. If your going to by a 2nd gen and not a 3rd gen go with a 2001. They made alot of changes in 01 right before the body change. You get alot of the benifits of a 3rd gen while owning a 2nd gen.

You don't want a 3rd gen 1500. They have independent front suspension.

If you end up with a 3rd Gen make sure it's a 2500/3500 so you still end up with a solid front axel.
