Super 40 vs Original 40

RE: Super 40 vs Original 40
Ok i thought id post it here.. Ok... when i first got the truck in the summer the exhaust was in bad shape.. it was a flowmaster, it was in a black casing si/do. im pretty sure it wasnt the super 40 because it was kind of bulky and it was rusted through as it seemed it was on the truck a long time. one of the pipes was completely gone and running off one of the outlets on the muffler and the other pipe was basically about to go and was rusted and with holes. the muffler was in horrible shape too. so when i looked and the guy was going to start it i was like this was gonna be loud. but when it started it was very quiet. at idle it was almost stock sounding. It was kind of quiet riding around. What could be the problem?

Seems to me that if that muffler was pretty much dumped, it'd be roaring loud on a start-up. I think you said you have about 160-180,000 miles on the truck too right? Think it could be time for a new catalytic converter. If your gonna do that, get the universal magnaflow cat, a lot of us on the forum have gone down the route. It's very flowing, and quite affordable. If you plan to gut your cat some day, don't get it then because it's waiste of $85 or so. But I think you should look into getting a new cat. Could also be why your truck runs so sluggishy.

Question...What do you do when you take it to the mechanic if you ever needed to? Just tell them under no circumstances flash the PCM?
