I know I'm probably going to get ****ed. The truck has just become even more obnoxious since the headers and y-pipe deal. I tap the gas and the truck just starts fricken chirpin, but i love it! My neutral revs used to be...OK. But now, I look forward to them, they sound like a cammed mustang or some ****, it's incredible. The gutted cat really helped the sound out, and now with the headers working with it...yeah, it's one of the loudest trucks I know of.

a "healthy" catalytic converter has almost no effect on maximum power
...probably less than 1%

The Dodge 1996 to 1999 catalytic converters were defective and do plug
and there is a USA wide recall to put a new catalytic converter on for free:

http://www.usdoj.gov/opa/pr/2005/Dec..._enrd_688.html

I firmly believe the 1992 to 1995 Dodge Catalytic converters were also defective.

most of the time running without cats messes up the oxygen sensors readings enough
that the MPG is worse in part throttle driving

Cops are nothing but bulleys for the mostpart. Atleast in NJ. My policy has always been fuc* them. I would venture to say I have the loudest truck on here thats not open headers, and I have had no problems with cops from that aspect. Though a few nights back I was having a bit of fun and a cop that musta been a couple miles out heard me and found me and tailed me for a good 4 or 5 miles.

Depends on where you live in PA and the year of the vehicle. For 1995 and older back to 1973, it has to pass a visual inspection all the smog equipment has to be in place. For 1996 and later with OBD II it gets hooked up to a computer and checked for failure codes. Some of the rural counties are exempt and there is a mileage exemption too. Less than 6,000 a year and you get an exemption sticker.

Sounds like a real good reason to get some big *** tires and not fix your speedometer to compensate

Bah... Gut the sucker and weld her back... looks stock, works great, and by my handy-dandy code scanner with built in emissions reader, my truck thinks the cat's fine...
