warped rotors on my 98 RAM
I am definitely a newbie !I have had my ram since it was new ,I started having problems with my front rotors warping about 4 yrs now I have bought new ones &I have had them turned,I know that makes them weak but what do you do ha,I have life time warranty pads so I always get new for free , But why do the rotors warp every time in about 1 or 2 months? Every time I drive it the ABS & the break light comes on ONLY when the road if bumpy or rough what could cause this & when I apply them hard or easy I hear & feel this tic tic tic tic tic It does not matter they are new or warped rotors I just cant pin point the problem I think it may be theABS is badso that is why I am here so any advise will help .Thanks
umm i would say its your lifetime pads, thats why they are lifetime cause everytime they are shot, your rotors are too. thats how they get you with that lifetime crap. see what im getting at??????
Can we please have some info on this ride you got ?? year ? 4x4 ? the main reason why rotors warp is heat , sometimes the caliber is sticking , block hose , plus 8/10 times when you do chew down a warp rotor it only takes 1-4 months to warp again (rotor to thin)
It's possible that your master cylinder is causing too much pressure to go to the front brakes and less to the rear. When driving about 15 mph on gravel and you lock them up, do all 4 brakes lock or just the front? If it's just the frontI would say it's the master cylinder or proportioning valve. Too much front brake, causes too much heat in the rotors, and causes them to warp.

you said you could feel the ticking... do you feel it in the brake pedal? if you do, your abs is activating. if you feel it everytime you brake, you could have a wheel speed sensor out. if the computer monitors that one wheel is traveling at a different speed while you are braking, it will activate the abs. This will cause your abs system to pulsate the brakes rapidly, causing a sound and a funny brake pedal feel. also, if your abs light is coming on while traveling over rough ground you could have a loose ground or power wire leading to the abs module. there are a number of things that could be causing your issues...just trying to offer some advice
I know it's been a couple of days but there is some info I thought should get added or I missed it.
There also is an issue with washing your truck with the rotors still hot. Never spray cold water on hot rotors..........
The drive through car wash. The stop and spray the dirt off for 6 quarters. The just got home and spray it off while their still hot. Anytime you spray the truck, either don't spray/clean the front wheels for a while or go have a beer or two then wash it.
And as stated before, The lifetime pads are more abrasive and metalic. Wears more on rotors. Which is the prefered item to replace????? Cheaper pads save on rotors.....
