Just as it states, which filter do you think is best for high mileage oil change intervals (6K-10K)? This may be a dead horse post, but I didn't see any recent polls on it, so humor me... And feel free to add your own brand if you don't see it...

 

I would personally never trust the oil to be in their that long, and depending on how much junk your engine makes you can have the best filter in the world and still not have it get plugged at some point, although will probaly not happen.

I belive wix filters are the best... they are waht I use.

Are WIX filters made by Amsoil? I was on the Amsoil website and did a "search by vehicle," and one of the oil filters it listed was a WIX. Seriously, though, if this oil lasts as long as it says...

If it really lasts for a year, you can't beat that price! Does anyone in here actually run it for a year?Can this be possible??? I guess it is, since Amsoil is a big name brand with a great history. Ihonestly don't know if I could trust any oil and filter for that long.

 

I use nothing but royal purple and wix in all of my cars. from my nitrous fed monte carlo to my turbo miata to the wife daily driven xterra. and i gotta say on the xterra i change the oil about every 6 months, granted we drive it about 25k miles a year. so i go about 12k miles to the oil change and have no problems. the oil comes out and its bearly even changed colors. now i do a lot sooner on the race cars but its still the best. i stopped using fram when i had one blow up and oil the track.

 

The Napa Gold filter is a Wix filter and a decent one. So long as you don't run a Fram, any of those (omit Walmart Supertech, don't know who makes this) with a synthetic will go 6-10K.

 

I think I may just go every 6 months and use the WIX/Royal Purple or WIX/Amsoil combo. I haveabout another monthto decide... Thanks to those who have posted so far...

 

Mobil 1 filter and castrol GTX dino. Replaced every three months. I paid 11 dollars for 5 quarts and a filter at autozone (they had a sale). No real difference between dino oil and syn when its changed every 3 months, except you pay 3 x as much for syn.

However, I have been doing a syn change for my wife's 07 Jeep GC hemi. Its new and i like the habit of synthetic. But for the 1996 with 143K, dino oil. At that mileage, some fuel must be blowing past the piston. That changes the composition of your oil...basically breaks it apart. So nothing you put in will last longer than 3k.WhenI swap the engine, then I will go syn.

 

I have no experience with anything but the cheapo regular oil and filters but after reading about what frantz bypass oil filters can do as well as amsoil and royal purple, I'd try some of that stuff in my truck for at least 12,000 miles with the right filter setup.Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if oil can go years in a motor so long as the filters are changed regularly and the oil is tested on a regular basis. Royal Purple says their oil lasts 12,000 miles on average and longer if the right filter setup is used. Amsoil says heavy equipment can go way over their scheduled oil change intervals with the right setup, and not only that but a tractor trailer using the right setup, oil testing at a lab, and amsoil went over 400,000 miles on the same oil. Frantz (wefilterit.com) says that with their filters a person can keep particles as small as 1/10th of a micron in size out of oil. According to wefilterit.com, that's as small as a particle from cigarette smoke. If I'm not mistaken, I'm almost certain that if a filter is that good oil can last longer than most people think. Plus with regular testing of oil in a lab for $15 or so, what the heck, I'd give it a shot. With prices of the cheap stuff getting out of hand, 2 bones a quart, I'd much rather have royal purple or amsoil in my crankcase if it lasts at least 4 times as long, reduces friction, lowers engine temps and then some... Read up for yourselves, and contact independent oil testing labs and ask them how long a good oil like amsoil or royal purple can go. There must be a reason why the chemical engineers say that new oils can go more then 3000 miles.

 

i use K&N oil filter $9.95and ROYAL PURPLE oil $7.95 a quart and still change my oil at 3,000 miles about a $50 + oil change but i guess its worth it in the long run, , i use 10w 30 , is 5w 30 ok to run? , i ask because walmart sells royal purple in 5w 30 for $6.72 a quart , cheaper then the 10w 30 i buy at $7.95 a quart, and they sell the mopar filters i think number is a 090 are those anygood? an is that the one that fits our trucks?? ill have to look that up
