ughhh first accident :(
I know in my areathat cop's will not come out and fill out a police report for an accident where both vehicles are drivable and no one got hurt. Even upon request on my first accident and calling the cops, they said no over the phone. I was kinda shocked, but thats done and over with in my case. Maybe talk to the person that you backed into and see if you can split the cost. Tell her look, we both were in the wrong here as I backed into you, but you shouldn't have been parked here either. I mean im sure you'll figure out something. If your not going through insurance... you oviously didnt give her any of that information. She would have to report it as a hit and run if you never paid her. Heck if she claimed you backed into her (with no damage to your truck hehe...) tell them she randomly picked out your truck in the parking lot, got your plate number, and ... has a cop friend who hooked her up with my drivers license. ITS A SETUP!!! AAHAHAHAH jk jk jk. But look at all the angles here.
Well my first accident involved me and a rolling 1990 Ford Tempo
, so be glad you didn't have glass in your face/head and the vehicle you wrecked was waaay cooler.[8D] But honestly, to jump on the bandwagon here...not getting a police report is very dangerous. You have to be very careful when it comes to this stuff. Those people could have went home and told a friend about it, who then talks them into causing more damage on their own or saying they later discovered an injury. Sounds dumb, huh? Happens every day... If the police department refuses to come and fill out a report, that needs to be addressed with the city council or state. That's part of their friggin' job![:@] Unless they have a mass murder tying up 95% of the work force, that is unacceptable. Sorry...I'm a Criminal Justice major, and I hate lazy, POS cops.

oh yeah I forgot to mention your insurance company is going to be alot more pissed at you if this lady sues them for the money for repairs and you never reported in the first place. The incident I refered to above happend over 5 years ago and my insurance cost is finally starting to settle down from it, but overall I lost alot more than $800 over it. Just don't want to see you get screwed.

You could have snapped a shot of her car in the fire lane. Also, now she might have a sore neck. People are sue happy, best of luck resolving this.

I remember my first accident was with a 2nd genwhite 2500 dodge ram. ha! the guy was backing out of a parkingspot, and backed right into my front fender on my mustang. My fender buckled on my old stang... :-( Yup, the corner of his bumper went inbetween my passenger door and wheel. I get a buckled fender, he gets paint chips that flew off of my fender because it was so cold out. he gets out of his truck and looks at his bumper, looks at me, and chuckles a bit. takes his hand and brushes the chips off of his bumper, then comes over to me like it was my fault. LMAO.. needless to say I won that battle. From then on I was sold. lol, thats why I love my ram so much.

We need to start an accident thread (not that im promoting accidents) butlikeram vs. minivan, ram vs. mustang (in my case) etc.
In my state, you are legally required to report the accident (and a police officer come out to take pictures and file a report) if the damage caused to both vehicles will be over $400.
If the lady was inside that Montana when you hit it, you probably should have gone through insurance. If she decides to sue you for some reason now (the statute of limitations on a car accident is three years in the U.S.), you have to pay for your lawyer and will probably end up losing since you technically caused the accident and didn't report it. If you report it through insurance/cops, and she sues you two and a half years down the road, your insurance will pay for the lawyer and any losses (up to whatever amount of insurance coverage you have). I'm dealing with a guy that I hit with my Dakota two and a half years earlier, who is suing me for a lot of things he claims are related to the car accident.
I'm not supposed to be talking about it, so thats all I'll say, but thank God I went through my insurance company on that one. Lawyer, paralegal, all fees, paid in full... not a single dime out of my pocket. Well, that is, except for slightly higher premiums on my insurance.

i think you are f****ing up not reporting it to your insurance and letting them handle it. that's why you buy insurance. her damage will be repaired as a liability claim, and it won't cost you anything. its never too late to change your mind... just call them tonight or in the morning and tell them you were thinking about handling it as a private manner, but reconsidered.
Yup i was with my friend and they were pulling out of a drive-way,a nd my truck was parked across the street. Didnt bother to look in their mirrors and rocked the side of my truck they blew out a tail light and dented in the corner of the car.. my truck still looked flawless thank you dodge ram! But not more than two months later i got hit on the passenger side by a person who blew a stop sign going 40 mph twisted cab and two doors blown in. Had a buddy do some body work and were back in business!
My G/F's brand new focus had the entire back door panel redone, with electrical damage, and custom pin stripe. Was only 900. Shouldnt be any more than that. If it were me I would take it to court.. IF she was parked there.. obviously
