Band Adjustment "Backing Off" TRICKS!!!
#31
I just did an adjustment on the bands and had a hard time finding something to turn the adjusting screw. I have a 97. My adjustment screw has a square head. The 11/32, 3/8, 9mm, 10mm was either to small or too big. I made it work by putting some metal strands in the 10mm. But it was dicey. I'm not sure the adjustment was right. Anybody know of a socket or wrench that works like it should?

Let me preface my question by saying I've no experience with the newer gen trannys of any automaker. My 'ol blue beast has an NV3500. I came to despise the 80's and 90's gen automatics and swore I wouldn't own a frankensteined 727 or 904 with an overdrive and lockup torque converter grafted in. However, I did quite a few 904s n 727s back in the day, even with lockups and overdrives...what a mess. whether it's the low/reverse or kickdown band, (yes, the adjustment of the band needed to be in the ballpark)...HOWEVER, why is it so flippin' critical all of a sudden. Your talkin' about a hydraulically controlled drum brake. I can even appreciate the computer controlled servo's, but the designers/engineers had to know about parameters that allowed for wear and heat expansion-contraction. Why, all of a sudden are you speaking about fractions of a thousandth of an inch difference making for a problem. Sounds more like a design flaw in the ECM/TCM than a mechanical problem. Am I missing something here?
