Default Are all headers the same?

I have a 2000 v10 that I am just starting to look for performance parts for. My question about headers is what makes them different? Why would one company charge $900 and another charge only $600? Are they basically the same performance wise or is it worth the extra dough? The main reason I am asking is a set that I found on ebay for $200 shipped. Would it be worth it or would it just be crap? I am sure the cheap set from ebay will be gone before I make a decision but I'm still curious if it is worth the extra money for the more expensive sets.

IMO I would say yeah it usually is worth the extra money when it comes to headers. The difference in price makes a huge difference in quality. Cheap headers off ebay will probably start to lose all there coating and begin to look all nasty shortly after there installed whereas a good set will keep there shine for a long time. Some brands I believe even put a lifetime warranty on there coating. Other differences are performance gains. Expensive ones are backed with alot of research and development whereas a cheap setmay be just made biggerin diameter and look cooler. And one last thing would be the gaskets. I know alot of people who buy cheap headers and the headewrsusually begin to leak after only a few months. But thats just my opinion... We'll see what others say

No, all headers are not the same.Headers by Edused to make the best headers. Not sure if that's still true. You have to consider the length of the headers (individual cyliners and total length), coatings, flange thickness, etc.

I can't tell you what header works best with your truck but someone here might be able to help you with that.

I would avoid the cheaper headers. I bought some cheaper ones once on a '67 chevy I had. Worst purchase EVER! The shortys I took off were much better than the cheap full length headers I bought. I feel the quality and tube size was the difference. I'd imagine a V10 needs pretty big tubes. And you want them as close to equal length as you can get.

Thanks for the reply's, I kinda figured that the shorter ones were not worth the money but I had to ask. You two bring up some very interesting points for me to further research. Thanks for the tips. I will put a great deal into research before I start buying parts. I didn't even know where to start with headers and now I have a good idea of what to look for when I sit down to do research. thanks..

Nothing wrong with short tube headers. I think they will give you more low end torque, while long tubes give you more top end. I could be wrong. Been a real long time since I've looked at headers.

Headers by Edwere always rediculously priced. but you can get a good set of hooker headers. Some companies like Hooker or crane will sell you sets like a cam, headers, and ignition system. These are already matched sets so it takes out some guesswork.

I don't remember what was in all the sets. Maybe it was only holley and eldebrock offering the sets. Just something to look into.

there is a tremendous range of header design

'normal' four into one
Tri-Y
180 degree

plus flange designs and thickness
plus primary tube lengths
plus collector lengths

Without kidding
you could put up to 100 different designs on
your V10 alone
