So I think I found the problem to my gas milage. I just went out and found out that my truck has the authorized updat(death flash). I was kinda happy to find this because this could be my answer. I was wondering if I should get it just reflashed or buy a hypertech or another chip. I don't want to spend a ton like on a sct but idk how great the hypertech is. Plus, would this cause my truck to ping then??? thanks

 

found out that it is p/n 56040410AD which is tsb 18-006-03 which is the engine timing retard.

 

used hypertech is the cheapest approach, just be wary of getting one that's VIN locked, and unusable. if you have a plenum leak, the hypertech WILL cause severe pinging. Mine did. Once i fixed the plenum, it runs great on 87 octane programming and 87 octane gas. i seldom see used superchips for sale. hypertechs appear on a regular basis. if you just want a little boost, and don't want to spend a lot of money, and you are patient, you can find one in the 150-200 range.

 

I have a Hypertech and one of those autorized flash stickers although I'm not positive it was for the death flash. I've only run it on the 93 setting. It does okay but it didn't make a big power difference.

 

I just checked that part number and there is a flash that you can update to. It updates to 56040410AG. It is supposed to solve 6 different problems. Hope this helps.....DAVID

 

Ya I saw something about that. Would that be better than just getting it reflashed for what it would be normally without the retarded timing? Like would it give me more power and better mpg. I think this is why my mpg sucks so bad.

 

I thought I remember someone on here saying a long while back that if you had any kind of "authorized update, etc." sticker on your pcm, then you have the death-flash. I have one on mine...plan to look down the TB soon and actually check for oil in the plenum...never have done that!

 

I guess from what I read it may be for something else and there is a code you can look up to find tsb code to see exactly what it is for.

 

so I just got done talking with thedealership and the guy told me(his opinon) was to go with a mopar pcm. He said they could give me the lastest update for my truck for like 40 bucks if it doesn't already have it. He said even though my truck had the authorized system update I problem wouldn't see much performance or mpg increase... I am thinking of just getting a cheap hypertech for now them maybe go better once I have more money and mods done to the truck. Do you guys think I will get a pretty good inprovement on mpg and power. I have heard some good things from others.
