Default Spark Plug ?

What am I missing? I can't get the 5/8" plug socket onto the plug. My new plugs are 5/8", could the old ones be a different size?

what's the replacement plug and part # that you bought? You can pull out the plug heat shields with a pair of pliers, just twist a bit and pull straight out. You really don't need them and I think they cause more problems than they are worth.

Hi eyebrowski, so what you are saying the 5/8 socket is too small?

Do you have a 13/16 spark plug socket?

Try this first, if it fits see what spark plug it is (brand and type). Check it to make sure you have the right plug for your truck. You didn't say what year your truck is and size of motor.

Check this as well..... www.dodgeforum.com/m_837308/tm.htm

Let us know

Wrong size. It is either 5/8ths or 13/16ths, so you don't have a lot of choice here. Make sure you get both in your tool case. I remove the heat shields because rust and crud gets in there. I put them back, but felt like beating them with a hammer!

I had the same problem with my socket not fitting. Make sure you clean out the heat shield tube with compressed air if available.

I found that I had to use a regular 5/8 deepwell socket on a couple of the plugs. It was a different socket manufacturer, too.

They aren't that hard to do as I've done mine a few times. I don't remember what size spark plug socket I used but I have a set of a couple from craftsman and maybe other places not sure if they are all Craftsman or not and it was one of those that fit. I've got several though. Go to walmart. They sell like a set of 3 as I just saw it the other day. It's a good chance one of those will fit.
