Default intakes

im trying to find an intake for my 98 ram 1500 5.9L. ive been looking on e-bay and saw a couple that look just like the air raid intakes. i wanted to ask the experts first before i do anything rash. has anyone bought one for their truck and does it fit? is this a good idea for someone with a low budget. i mainly just want the hat that goes on the tb, cuz i plan on eventually making aCAI. this is my first dodge so im new to this engine and if anyone knows any tricks for power please let me know. any help would be much appreciated

your best bet is to get the cheapo and add a good filter and and heat wrap...not to keep the air cool, but to keep the cheap tube from going all to crap...

I would think the heat wrap would make the tube go to hell, because it would hold moisture in??

I don't think it wousl if you got one of those sleeves that are made for an intake tube. They have the seam on top, so moisture could escape. Like this one:

$46.99 at summit...kind of pricey...

Right on...you should buy an AEM dry-flow filter for it...about $50 and better than a K&N...and oil-free...

well i changed my mind. i went the round intake route. i didnt want to wait. just finished putting it on and went for a test drive. WOW! that made a huge difference. doesnt really make the noise but i can feel a difference. it also made my exhuast sound throatier. im happy with it now i just need to find either a ram air hood or some way to get fresh air on it.

i have a Airaid intake.
That looks a lot like mine, except mine extends all the way to the hole in the fender and has a heat shield that mounts to the fender...I'll get a pic up when I get the heat shield on...

I was gonna go that route at one time, but I figured it would kill my gas mileage...mostly because of my right foot. But I thought about it, and when those types of air intakes were used, the major goal was HP, not MPG, so I didn't want to go downhill in that area. I know any intake hurts MPG if you drive it wide open, but the short ram/CAI can actually help if you drive it normally. Get a pic up and show it off... Ram air hood kits are pretty expensive unless you cut a hole and fab it yourself. One day I may try to save up and buy the shaker kit for my Ram...it's very bada$$...I think so anyway...[&:]
