HOW MUCH OIL IS TOO MUCH ?
A properly built engine should not *burn* any oil. I don't care what anyone says, dino or synthetic. These damned synthetic myths never die. Either the plenum is leaking or there is a leak. My engine has a leak in the rear main and I run synthetic, so I know where my oil leak is.

My general rule of thumb is to fill the engine with the same capicity that your gas tank holds. if you have a 26 gal tank, 26 gal of oil...30 gal, 30 oil. Thats why dragsters run small fuel cells that have less than 10 gallons, because the more oil the more weight on the crankshaft, meaning less power. Thats how you get deep in the 6's.

I am running synthetic oil in my 99 Ram with at 5.9, I change it about every 5,000 and have to add about a quart before the next oil change. Does that mean that its leaking oil at the plenum or is that normal for an engine with 113,000 ?

putting synthetic oil in a high mileage vehicle is asking for a leak. the sludge built up in a high mileage vehicle stops leaks most of the time. when u run normal oil, it cant get thru the cracks. once u run slippery synthetic, it finds its way thru the cracks once held together by the sludge and then u get a leak. yay.
