Default HOW MUCH OIL IS TOO MUCH ?

I am running synthetic oil in my 99 Ram with at 5.9, I change it about every 5,000 and have to add about a quart before the next oil change. Does that mean that its leaking oil at the plenum or is that normal for an engine with 113,000 ?

I would say that is about normal, to check your plenum look into the TB with a flashlight and see if there is oil pooling, especially in the rear..

it may not burn, but it will deffinitly burn in the motor. sounds like your plenum is leaking. 16xxx miles and no plenum. Knock on wood!! but i dont burn any oil. prolly a time for a oil change since its been 4500 miles since ive changed my oil on my pickup. (Valvoline 5w30) it been too cold up here to change my oil but i better get to it.

1 quart in 5k isn't bad at all. Could be the start of a plenum leak. Ever change the PCV?
How heavy of an oil do you run? 5w30, 10w30?

My general rule of thumb is to fill the engine with the same capicity that your gas tank holds. if you have a 26 gal tank, 26 gal of oil...30 gal, 30 oil. Thats why dragsters run small fuel cells that have less than 10 gallons, because the more oil the more weight on the crankshaft, meaning less power. Thats how you get deep in the 6's.

Right now Im running quaker state 10w30 syn. at the next oil change Im switching to mobil one 10w40 high mileage. I haven't change the pvc since I bought the truck with 103,000. I will change that today and check in the throttle body with a flashlight this weekend to see if I have a plenum kit in my future, LOL. Thanks for the advice
