Default Front Steering Replacement

About to order about $600 in steering upgrades and wanted to hear if anyone else has seen improvement from these parts. Ordering a Trac Bar Kit, not HD and a Box mounted Steering Stabilizer sold by a company in Arizona called DTProfab. http://www.dtprofab.com I need a new trac bar and replaced the gearbox about 2 years ago, so I figured the stabilizer would be a good investment considering my 35" tires. I'm also looking for a new centerlink though, the adjuster on the driver side won't move...despite excessive force and penetrator..think it's bent. Anyone know if installing a 1 ton centerlink, adjuster and tie rod ends would increase the strength and reliability?? Or if it would even work?? Suggestions on adding a RockRam or a new steering pump or cooler??

Thanks gents!

Does your 98 have the HD steering on it right now?

If your tie rod runs straight across from one knuckle to the other (crossover) than it does. If the tie rod runs from the drivers side knuckle to the drag link, and the drag link is what actually connects to the passenger side knuckle, then you have the traditional scissors or "y" style steering which sucks quite frankly.

The reason I ask is because the "HD" steering was only available on the 98-99 HD versions. It is a much beefier steering system than the traditional set up and would be a direct bolt in for your current 3/4 ton (if you don't already have it).

dont waste your money on the baind aid steering box stabilizer.

your steering set up should be
DT profab trac bar
chevy 1 ton steering (made by shaker built or yourself) or Thuren steering
flaming river or Borgenson steering shaft
and PSC steering box

One of the many front end components i bought was the sectar shaft support bar. It supports the shaft of the box, its holding up great and I feel it really works especially with bigger tires. forgot the name of the company, i'll try to find it.

My tie rod runs from drivers to passenger with the drag link connecting in the center of the tie rod. That should be the HD options based on what you're saying.
The DT Trac bar comes with a mounting bracket which I assume moves the mount onto the knuckle, but I haven't seen any installation photos/instructions. The Chevy setup you're talking about, where can I look into it and what are the benefits?

I haven't seen the sector shaft support, but I'm assuming it's similar to the aftermarket box supports on Jeeps. The DT support is the only one I've found on the market and maybe it's just my previous experience with Chevy's, but I didn't know if the box support bolts were enough to handle the stress of 35s.

I am looking to get a new steering shaft, haven't decided between Flaming River or Borgeson. Does anyone make an upgraded box or pump like AGR, like who is PCS exactly?

Thought about hydro, but expensive and being that my truck is more trail and less rocks/mud I don't think I would really benefit. Plus I'm saving for the free spin hub kit!!!! [8D]

Any other suggestions? Planning on adding a small cooler, no fan....I forget if my aux cooler is tranny or steering, I think tranny...don't remember the radiator right now. Drain, flush and refill...etc etc.

Thanks gents!!

DT trac bar install
http://www.pavementsucks.com/tech/dtbar.php

chevy one ton steering write up
http://www.pavementsucks.com/tech/steeringupgrade.php

or you can buy it from this guy who threads the insides so you dont need to weld in inserts
http://shakerbuilt.com/parts.html

PSC is a rugged steering box. ( times out of ten your steering pump is fine bbut people replace the pump. the PSC is setup so you can run hydro later if you decide

dont waste your money on the sector shft braces. they are a band aid. the reason why peopl notice a difference is because other parts of their steering are on there way out and this just makes it seem tight.

check this thread out. this is how it should be made

The brace at the bottom is essentially the same thing without bracing on the passenger side frame rail. After reading everything, I think I may buy the support from DT and cut off the passenger side after the bearing mount so that all of the support is coming from the same side as the box. Maybe make a few modifications, add a brace or gussett. I just don't have the materials or tools to make one like the link you sent. I wish that guy made his design available.

So, sounds like I can buy the drag link and tie rod from Shakerbuilt, add the DT trac bar and modified steering support. Next time my box blows I'll get a PCS and think about getting hydro someday .

Now I didn't see a 1 ton Chevy kit for my Dodge on Shakerbuilt. Do I have to get measurements and send them off to be made or does he have a pre-fab kit available.

Thanks again gents!!!
