Default ADDITIONAL INFO Transmission in and out of OD

1996 Dadge Ram 1500 with 5.2L with 135,000 miles

SOORY, some wrong info from my Father

TRANSMISSION HELP PLEASE>

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

My Father has narrowed down for me the typical situation that leads to the shutter AND the shutter is worse than I experienced the other evening.

Here it is.

When he departs the neighborhood, he accels to 45 mph (legal speed there). Truck drops into OD. There is a decent incline onto the interstate and an increase to 60 mph. When he accels while still in OD from the 45 to 55-60, up this incline and while still in OD, it shuttlers badly. If he down shifts out of OD and accels no shutter.

SORRY For misleading you all. Does this info point more closely to one of your recommendations?

If it's a misfire you may have a cracked head. If it's a pinging check the pleneum. Another thing is the TPS. That I don't think would cause it to act like a misfire or a pinging problem but it caused my truck to surge at highway speeds. It would jump up a couple of hundred rpms then back down then a minute or so later same thing. I replaced the TPS with one from Napa and no problems.

mines doing the same exact thing, ill set the cruise control to 70 and every so often the rpm's will jump from 2000 to 2500 and the instantly go back down. It doesnt adjust my speed or anything, and ive noticed it does it more often when i hit big bumps going down the road. Im thinkin bout gertting it replaced, will one of these work? http://www.thepartsbin.com/catalog/?...294967271+5955

we've replaced the TPS...............no change. I'd describe the proble as a shutter or jitter in and out of over drive. None of the tune up items seemed to help. I just cleared the codes for him following a tune up and the code was a c\cylinger 2 misfire and randam misfire.......everyone in town says new tranny...........I can not be this wrong.

I have a similar problem with my TC unlocking causing the rpms to increase. It happens most often around 70mph. When it happens I let off the gasfor 2 seconds then push on the gas and the TC locks again and stays locked. I think it is a tranny problem that I may be able to fix.
When your shutter/jitter occurs let off the gasthen push on it again to maintain speed and try to feel the TC lock. Does the shutter go away for several minutes and start again? Does the shutter happen immediately after the TC locks?

This type of OD problem seems to be the new cracked dash on our rigs...

That sounds like what mine was doing. Do these trucks have the wires coming out of them like in that picture? I can't remember from back when I did mine but I didn't think they did. They might have though. I just got mine from Napa it was about that price and I didn't have to pay shipping.

Your problem maybe in the overdrive unit, and not the rest of the trans. There is a wave snap ring that breaks all the time. The snap ring may have broke, causing the direct clutches to chatter.

Or the torque converter is starting to go bad, hence the "shuddering" your feeling.....
