Default First bad experience with Summit Racing.

I've ordered from Summit racing several times and they have always been great to deal with except this time I have had nothing but problems. I ordered a set of Hawk Pads as they were the only place I could find them in stock. I called to ask a question about the 2 different sets. He told me he could put my order in on the phone and after finding out what vehicle I had he told me those were the wrong pads and the pads I needed were $13 cheaper. I told him to order them and paid for 2 day shipping. Well, I needed them the day they were supposed to arrive so I was happy to see them at my door that morning. When I opened the box I immediately knew they were the wrong ones as they were way too long. Apparently the ones I wanted to order were right and these were for a 3500. Maybe a 2500 too I'm not sure. I called Summit to tell them and he said to mail them back and that was the only part they listed for my truck. I asked if I had to pay return shipping and his response was yes. I let him know I didn't think I should have to pay return shipping when it was there screw up. He put me on hold and came back saying they would mail me a return label and that they were the only pads listed for my truck and I should call Hawk themselves and ask them about it.

Well, I gave Hawk a call and they told me they didn't know why Summit listed those as fitting my truck I needed the ones I originally wanted. I called Summit back and told them that I needed them overnight as I had to have them. He assured me he would send them next day air then told me he wasn't going to charge me for shipping. I thought all was great until this morning when I had no pads yet. The Summit website didn't give me a tracking number until late this morning so I couldn't tell how it was shipped. Well, When I finally got a tracking # I see my pads are in Charlotte, NC and that they were shipped ground instead of overnight.

I gave them a call and let them know I was pretty unhappy with this as I told them I had to have them today and really needed them yesterday. He said he was sorry and that it was an error in their data department as it said to ship overnight he didn't know why they didn't. He is supposed to ship me a label to send these back too. I really wanted to try the Hawk pads out but I now am using ones from Raybestos I can get locally. They ended up costing me $91 for semi metallic pads but oh well.

I've always been happy with Summit in the past and will probably still order from them but this was a bad experience with them. Although I've ordered several times and this is the first time it's been bad. I did have another time with spark plug wires where they listed the wrong set for my truck and thought those were the only ones that fit when infact they are for the older LA style 360's. After some talking with MSD they sent me a custom made coil wire the same length as my stock one. This time I ordered the set they said wouldn't fit and they fit fine. I guess you have to double check and make sure what summit says will fit is right.

Oh well, just wanted to vent.

With all due respect, I find summit to be one of the best parts distributers ever in my opinion. You are going to have bad experiences anywhere you go, but to be honest this is the first time I've heard anything bad about summit. It is partially your fault since you knew the right pad numbers, you knew there was a descrepency as soon as you ordered. Maybe it would have been better to check a few places and then just tell them straight up, "I need part number xxx-xxxx" ect. you kno? Thats how I do it at least. I did buy some rebuilt carbueretors from summit last year. The first one I got had a crossthreaded choke housing so my heat tube nut wouldn't go on. Called em up, no problem. I shipped it back and they reinbursed me for shippingafter they recieved it back. Sent me another one when they got that one and when I recieved this one, I couldn't get my car to idle for anything. Shoot, the pooped up carb ran better than this one. I figured the floats must have gotten banged up in shipping, so i sent that one back and left the gum'd up car on my mustang. Shipped it back no problem. It wasn't summits fault for my problems, but rather the remanufacturer. Idk man, you kinda knew when you ordered the first time that there was a problem. Sure they may have mislead ya but, you know what im saying. The overnight and not sending it overnight is not really excusable I guess. My suggestion, stay away from shipping companys for a while. didnt you just have a problem with UPS? LMAO jk man... good luck!

I also wanted to point out that the pads for the 1500 are for the 2500 and 3500 as well.

summit can be a joke sometimes when you need something small.

their "free shipping" is a joke because they change you $9.95 "handling" on every order placed.

if we ever need something we just drive and go get it in Reno..
then we get to look at their huge *** store too =D

Yeah I didn't get my torque converter and Wanye with APS said after talkign to UPS for a few hours that they couldn't tell him where it was just it was delayed by weather. So he built me a new one and sent it overnight to me.

I agree though Summit is usually pretty good to deal with. I'd recommend them. I just was ranting. I wish they had shipped it overnight instead of ground like they said but oh well.

The part numbers you are right on. The reason I though that was the right set is it said fits Dodge pickup/van. The other ones said fits 1500/2500/and 3500 on the site. I checked this after he told me they were the right ones. I guess they need to fix there site. Overall as long as you double check the part numbers they usually are pretty good to deal with. I'm sure any company this size has problems and I just happen to be one of the few unlucky ones that had it happen to.

THOSE PADS DO NOT FIT A 1500. They are too long. Hawk says the same thing. Thats the exact set I have sitting here. I don't know if they fit a 2500 but they fit a 3500 according to hawk. You can go to Hawks site and put in your vehicle and it will give you the correct part number. Thats where summit needs to change their site.

These are the correct ones for a 1500 according to Hawk and they measure out the same as mine did. Their site gives you a picture with the measurements of the pad. The other set was way too long.

Hate to hear that. It does happen all the time, it just stinks when it happens to you. I used to have a problem with UPS leaving packages at my house in the city. Sometimes they would walk off, I also had a package that contained cash go missing. I have never ordered something from overseas and not had it "inspected". My Dad is A Plant manager for the Post office and my mom is Bulk mail sales They usually tell me all kinds of stories and I think with their volume they lose thousands of items a year.

UPS honestly has the best tracking but it seems there are times, like "bad weather" when it all gets messed up.

Well at least I have some good news UPS found my Hughes package, they said it is damaged, but I will see when I get it.

If an item is damaged in shipping, does that mean UPS must pay for the damage?

must?

not sure on that.

but we get damaged packages all the time (i load trucks every morning)
most from improper or poor packaging. (amazon is famous for the one piece of tape on the bottom of a big box with one small item in it..)
i know that we cut ALOT of checks every month for damaged/lost/missing packages..
call the C/S number and see what they say
