Changes about to go down.
Did you have it in neutral when you checked the fluid? It's something about the fluid only circulates in N so when checking it you need to put it in N with it running then check it. Just thought I'd throw that out there as I know when I first got my truck I didn't realize that until people told me.
I agree taking it through mud holes everyweekend or beating the snot out of it offroad is probably just as hard as what you do if not worse to it. Those guys are replacing parts left and right too though and most realize they are going to have to. I see guys that wheel them doing ball joints and stuff like that atleast once a year if not more than that where as my truck they lasted 7 years or so. Same goes for the transmission lots of them seem to have the trannys go out really early. I think you have to expect stuff to break a lot sooner anything you are hard on it. To some it's worth it. To some it's not. You just have to decide if you'd rather have fun and break stuff or drive normal and hope it lasts a little longer.
I have a ? for you btw but it doesn't really pertain to this so I'm going to send you a pm.

I am keeping the lift, and I am keeping the 35" sized tires.

and if we are really worried about the trans cooling or heating do what i do , we all pretrip our rides before we leave right ??? while the truck is warming up put it in N do your walk around and when you are gonna park it let it sit with the e brake on in N for a min then shut it down...

sucks to hear that, but everything to be said was said by the first time indyram posted......
oh well, dont you live in NJ? We can trade trucks if you want

So you don't want to spend that much money, because you're broke or whatever, and you have to bum money off your folks to get the transmission replaced, but you're going to go out and spend a thousand dollars on new 35" tires? okay...
I agree about the spacers too. If you don't offroad your truck will be okay on 3" of lift with 35s until you can upgrade the rest of your suspension components. If you want to know what you need why don't you crawl under the truck and snap some pictures of everything and we'll go from there.
I think your money would be better spent on fixing your suspension then on tires. Then it won't be a slinky anymore. Get the tires when you need them, or when you can afford them. Winter's almost over anyway. Just go someplace and get yours blanced right, you'll need an alignment after you fix the suspension anyway. And don't let them con you into a 4-wheel alignment just because your truck is 4 wheel drive. You only need a front end alignment. You may end up having to do it yourself if you can't find a reliable shop where you live.

Nah he just lives near a big city and the mechanics are a bunch of jerk offs. LOL Also when I read his post about the header install I noticed he shopped around and went with the cheapest estimate(never a wise decision). In my area there are a few great mechanics, body shops, and a great exhaust shop. But I agree about the salt, my Ram is in need of a bumper, body work and paint in the Spring.

That's very true too, I remembered somebody mentioned this before, and since then I've added it into my ritual, as stupid as that sounds. I've come to a conclusion with what I want to do with the truck though. I just needed to sleep on it. I am keeping the lift, and I am keeping the 35" sized tires. BUT, what I do think I'm going to do, is get rid of the nobby mud tires. I don't need them. I don't do any hardcore offroading. I've been looking into the Procomp All-Terrains, and the Procomp All-Terrain Extemes. I'm even a little nervous to go with the extremes. I think what I'm more looking for is a smooth ride. The tires on the truck fit the lift well. When I look at my truck, it doesn't strike me as out of proportion or oversized, it's just right. I think when I get a smooth treaded tire that is geared for the roads, I will be much more happy with its performance and the end of the thick mud tire tread against the pavement. What do you guys think of the procomps, think that would be a good solution? I was just looking at the truck, and you guys are right, it'd be silly to dismantle what it has. I know I'd be really sad if I lowered it. I love hopping into that thing all high up and loud, it makes my day. I just hate the tires, they don't fit me at all. If your in mudding, then sure, the compromise of the loud ride and the poor performance in snow and rain would be something you'd take a hit on. I think when I achieve a nice smooth ride, and can just hear the sound of the flowmaster doing its work, I'll be much more happy, and the focus will no longer be on the size of those tires. What do you guys think? I also just dropped the truck off at the transmission shop, so I'll see what they say when they call me back.

Personally though, I would look at the Pro Comp Xterrains. the all terrains don't offer the best traction if you do decide to go offroading once in a while and they will absolutely suck in mud. All terrains are pretty much only good for gravel and dirt. the Xterrains are a great all around tire, I run the 35s on my Jeep. they handle well on the pavement and they can handle any terrain i throw at them. Since they are directional they are also still fairly quiet on the street for such an agressive tread pattern. and for the record I got my set of 4 during the buy 3 get one from Summit racing for right around 600 bucks
