Changes about to go down.

RE: Fed-up. Big changes about to go down.
That really sucks man. I like mine lifted with the 35's and I agree it does movearound a little when cruisin' on the highway, but nothing too dangerous. Maybe you should just look at working on the suspension a little and stiffening it up if at all possible that way you can keep the killer looks on it now. If not, the 285's would look good on there and I'm sure you'd be able to tell a major difference.

RE: Fed-up. Big changes about to go down.
I know it's a really weird situation for me. I never really had taken her on the highway before, and it was just really shocking. I don't like the feeling of not being able to go 75mph comfortably without feeling like my truck is getting tossed around. Sure the truck looks all badass up high, but what good is it if it's a ragdoll at highway speeds? I mean xskyline, your truck looks really solid still, I wouldn't mind that look at all. And I will have the nice fender flares still, and she will still look high, and it will be strucutral suspension. I just dont like the feeling of being inspector gadget on the highway, the suspensioin is just all wobbly. I also think the tires are junk. The mud tires pull the truck around everywhere, and I think due to their irregular wear wehn I got it, its making it so I cannot get an allignment. When I go to the allignment shop, I need to see if its the tires causing the tranny to go out, or if its just a worn tranny. When I say speed, I dont mean like car speeds. I bought a truck for a reason. I could have gotten a mustang, but I wanted a truck. Car is useless to me, thats why I got rid of it. Even with my plans to drop it, it will still be a big truck, so its not like I'm pussying out of having a big truck still. IT will still be great offroad, yet it will be able to move along at clips I like to go. I do admit, I have a lead foot, its in my blood. When I speed in this truck, its unsafe and its abusive and I feel bad. I dont know though, I may not dismantle the lift, I need to think this through. What I do know is the trucks ride will be remarkably better if I put her back down to its normal size with the 285s. It will ride smoother, be a lot quicker, mpgs will be better, and it will be a heck of a lot safer. I know how a truck drives, I drove them all the time, but this, this was much different, I felt very vulnerable. I dreaded having to get into the fast lane to pass people, the wind just blew her around everywhere. I mean is it normal for the truck to move side to side so effortlessly just by rocking a little bit in the cab? Its like a big slinky, I hate that. Ahh I just dont want to be sad if i lower it. I really love the truck because of how high it is. I really dont want to make it lower, but I cannot afford to fix the transmission, only to eat it up again with the 35" tires. And I cannot afford new gears right now, thats insane money. If I put 285s on it, the 4.10 gearing would be PERFECT, although I still havent checked yet what gearing is in it, but 4.10 is the minimum. anyways, i need to find out what is wrong with the tranny first. Eiother way I still love my dodge, its nothing to do with dodges, or the power. The truck has plenty of power guys, I just mean certain speeds are unsafe with it. Hmm....I'm very confused what I want to do.

RE: Fed-up. Big changes about to go down.
I dunno...going fast and owning a 6,000 lblifted truck doesnt jive somehow for me. Modified cummins trucks and V-10s excepted.
I shucked the tranny in mine too, pulling way too much weight way too far, with too many miles on the tranny. But my new tranny is tight and tough. I consider myself hard on transmissions.
I dont't get the road sway thing, but anything stickingup in a crosswind is apt to feel loose. Suspension tightness, even tire pressure affect handling.
I have 285's on a 4 inch lift, if that helps. I'd lift mine higher and run 35s but I need the gears first.

You want a fast truck? Get a 2nd Dakota with a 5.9 and mod the crap out of it. At least you wouldn't be lugging all that damn extra weight around.
Before you go tearing crap out of your truck, try replacing the shocks with a good set of Blisteins, Ranchos 9000XL's, or Edelbrock IAS performers. Make sure you get the correct length for you lift. Also think about buying some Poly Bushings and Shock mounts from Energy Suspensions. You'd be amazed how much a bad rubber bushing can affect handling.
Here's a possible free fix. Read the DIY on steering box adjustmnet and give that a whirl.
A lifted truck doesn't have to drive like a friggin' school bus. You just gotta know there's going to be some extra costs involved to get it back to feeling stock. A good 5 inch lift isn't a cheap mod and you'd basically be ripping a grand out of that thing.
And check that gearing and get a real read on what you're running. You've been wafffling back and forth about 4.10 vs 4.56 in that thing for months. Don't guess; know what the heck you're working with.
And fix that plenum! If that thing's bad, you're throwing loads of money and power out the window. Anyone with a good socket set, a $1.49 plastic fuel line removal tool, a couple tubes of RTV, the repair kit, and a weekend can fix that on their own. Hell, my fiance could have gone out there with Steve's directions and done that. I might have had to pull the Fan clutch for her though.

RE: Fed-up. Big changes about to go down.
My 265's are HEAVY! I can't imagine how heavy those 35's must be. You are right in that you can't have it both ways. IndyRam can get his truck up to 140-160 I would guess. My stocker has done 120.Your truck-a mudder should not be EVER near 80 mph-unless you like doing cartwheels down the highway. Granted, this may solve every problem you have in the world, it is just too dangerous for a lifted truck.
Speed aint everything Dale Jr. Try to love the skin that you are in.

LOL ah its so hard! But this is what I mean though guys, like I can grab the side of my bed and easily get the truck rocking, is that normal? Also, if I sit in the front seat and just move slightly, the front of the truck moves side to side so effortlessly,is that also normal? I replaced the rear shocks, but not the fronts yet. You guys think that would stiffen the truck back up?? But I'm dealing with another issue besides the comfort of the ride, the tranny. Right now....it is toast. I cannot afford to fix this tranny if these tires eat it up again. Obviously the easy answer is getting 4.88 gearing, and then boom, the truck can handle the 35s, but that isnt a shortterm answer for me. My parents would defiantly not be sympthetic for me if I asked for bigger gears. As of now, I AM ****ED. I need their help because theres no way i can afford this tranny work right now, especially after all that header bullcrap i went through. They would be much more happy to know they were investing in something that for the longterm insured the truck to last and for the vehicle to be safe (they werent thrilled when i brought the truck home with the lift and tires lol). Anyways...you can see where im headed with this. Right now I have an imovable truck. If they fix the tranny, I'll have to buy the gears right after because obviously the gearing is still too small if the tranny is this messed up...i love the lift guys...but money wise, if im gonna doit, i have to make sure this truck is going to last and i cant afford with the bull****, period.
