Transmission***UPDATE
Well went and talked to him this morning. He showed me the truck. Firstly, I just got to say guys, I miss her so much lol. The truck looked so beautiful, I hadn't seen it in 3 weeks. It was up on a lift with the rear diff. cover taken off. He handed me a washcloth that had what looked like pieces of a broken alcohol bottle, it was pretty intense. There was a guy working on the truck when we went over to it. He said the pinion and gear assembly was in still good condition, but said it was something that should be addressed before it's ruined. I asked if they had checked the gearing yet, but the guy said he couldn't find the sticker on the axle. I told him I knew what it was stock, but I wanted to see if it was upgraded. They said it's 4.10, but I they are just saying that based off the vin #. I'm just going to have to check myself when I get her back. Anyways, he did a run down with me on the truck. He said everything else looks good right now, even the ball joints. He said the only other issues besides the posi unit, was the passenger u-bolt, he said it can wait till inspection time though.
The transmission, wow. It's all in, and it looks really spectacular. It's all blue, and just looks really clean. The deep dish tranny pan is in there as well and looks really neat. He showed me all the new tranny lines they made, and the big tranny cooler up front, looks really nice. He told me it's a nice truck, and it's almost complete to being all set (granted $5,000 later lol, so I guess it's not that great)... So I paid him for the transmission. The transmission is paid for, $4,033 dollars later. The transfer case seal is fixed as well.
So I told him to order the new posi traction unit. Comes with everything, new bearings. He said it's the tru-trac kit. Says they put them on all of their race tracks and big trucks that come in and says they don't have an issue with them. So truck will be done Thursday, and will be $945 for the rear diff. scene.
So $5,000....god that just makes me sick saying that....I'll have a brand new heavy duty transmission w/ a 3 year/75,000 mile warranty, a deep dish tranny pan, new tranny lines with a tranny cooler, new transfer case seal, new pinion seal leak, new posi unit assembly, and recalibrated speedo. It's pretty sickening guys....really sickening. I'm really going to take care of this truck. I'm literally stuck with this thing now lol, it is offically "my baby". This is all a pretty blow though guys, a lot to handle at once. Just hope she rides beautiful afterwards guys. Thank you guys all for your help too, you guys are great. Have you guys hear of the true-trac before? Does that mean detroit? Also, isn't that weird hometheaterman that you were warning me about that, and it did fall apart, good call. **** this previous owner, he truly was a ****ing dumbass. I was a dumbass for the first 7 months I owned this truck, he was the dumbass for the first 6 years of its life. Here goes to a new life with my baby.
**My bad guys on the posi unit. He said it's called the "True-Lock". He says it's like the Auburn kit. He confident with the product he says, and says it's what they run in all of their trucks and nobody has a problem with it. So I just told him to go with that, and they'll be responsible for the unit seeing thats what he wants to run and does run on their trucks. Have you guys heard of this before?

I'm not sure why you paid an extra $1000 you don't have for another LSD when you don't even need one, but yeah the tru-track is detroit. And at least if you bought one your probably just bought the best one money can buy (Although I haven't heard of any problems with the auburns either). It doesn't have clutch packs in it, so it won't fall apart like the factory one did.
Why didn't you just spin the wheel while it was up on the Jack? Those guys are either lazy or retarded if they can't tell you what gears are in there without the sticker.

Well this is a good shop though guys, they are doing very good work, and are highly reputable around here. I guess they are kind of dancing around it because it's really just a tiny thing in the scheme of things. They are more concentrated on doing the transmission and finding out if there is anything else wrong with the truck, so I can't really fault them, they are doing the job. The guy that was working on the truck was a really nice guy, probably in his late 20's, but was really respectful. He said he hadn't had a chance to count the gears yet, but said he would. It was just the front desk guys that called in the vin# and crap, and I think they were missing my point that I knew it was stock 4.10. But maybe the worker himself will let them know for sure when he's installing the posi unit. But other than that, they are really doing a nice job, the work looks very clean. They even fixed my loose exhaust hanger on the passenger side for me without having to ask, so that was pretty nice of them. Can't wait to have my baby back, and just get her all cleaned up. I just want to bring her into a bay and completely spray the whole under carriage, and then scrub all the wheels, tires, and tips down. Then I'm going to handwash her. I am never going to romp on that thing again. I will wait till I'm older and can afford a shelby or a cobra mustang

lets just accept the 4.10's there neon[8D]
remember now that this is all done... its not a race car. its a truck.

yeah im feeling 4.10s though. The way this retard had this truck, I doubt he would have spent the cash for a job like that. I just not sure why it has so much bight though?
4.10 would have plenty of bite for your average street truck, even with 35s. Towing and offroading is where you miss the power at. But unloaded, my 3.55 with 33" tires can still take off like hell when you romp on it (it can also get about 8mpg when you romp on it).
So don't be surprised if it's 4.10
I refuse to spend any money on these 1/2 ton axels. When I get my one tons I'm going to find ones that already have 4.10s in them. From there we'll see how it goes. Maybe I'll re-gear them when I get lockers.
and keep in mind that burning out with a LSD is alot harder on your truck than burning out with an open differential. But you go get alot of snow up there, so the LSD doesn't hurt I'm sure.

Let me know how the true trac works out. I've been plannin for a good while to put one in, and already have everything lined up. Picked my shop out already, talked to the guy about it. Told me he'd give me the true trac at cost + 250 install. Told me it would be around 750 OTD, comes with a 1 yr. warrenty. I took a trip out to his shop to scope the place out. I talked to the guy and after I got the info, then he got started on some drinking story's.
You just know when you find the right people. Just a back-woods shop not out to screw no body. Sounds like the perfect shop to me.

That sound like my mechanic lol. Bring him up a case of beer and tell him I need to use one of his empty bays for a little bit. Before long the "teacher/student" thing kicks in and he's helping me do whatever I was doing anyway. However few and far between they are there's still good people in this world.
