If you really wantto gain HP froman oil change. Run only 2 quarts of 5w20 oil. That way all the oul will basically be sucked out of the oil pan and there won;t be a pool of oiltherefor the rotating assembly to hit, this adding friction. Thats what bracket racers do....but they are only going 1/4 mile.
I dont believe the crankshaft hits the oil at anytime unless you over-fill the engine.............If the crank did hit the oil, it would cause the oil to foam, and air does not lubricate the motor very well

I went to the website and they claim in independent testing "up to 5% and more" mpg increase.

You know, jut putting in synthetic engine oil does not make sense unless you have synthetic in the engine, TC, Tranny, and both differentials. Basically the powertrain and driveline need to be fully synthetic to see a noticeable difference.

THats why i run Castrol GTX. Autozone sells the gallons for 8 bucks and i get a tall mobil 1 filter. Can't complain at all with it. If you use dino oil, there is no difference in synthetic in youn are changing the oil every 3 months.

I have never heard of anyone taking .1 off their 1/4 with a synthertic oil change. If you are gonna do synthetic engine oil, you better do everything else if you want to see a difference.
Well, ATF +4 is synthetic, the torque converter is part of the tranny (filled with ATF +4, as is transfer case) and synthetic Diff Oil was recommended in the later 2nd gen owner's manuals, so why not syn oil?

I just changed the oil in my '01 Ram. I used to use dino oil, but I decided to try full-synthetic Quaker State oil. (They make a kind specifically designed for high-torque applications like towing.) I can't believe the difference. I get easier starts, better mileage, and more power.

I use Royal Purple in my Duster, and it works really well.
dusty,

Keep an eye on your oil. When I switched from dino oil to syn, it pulled a TON of sludge out of the engine. Just food for thought.

I noticed a difference when I changed mine with RP a couple of weeks ago. Definitely worth it imo. I may have to look in to the Amsoil though for next time, just to see.

My point is if you are shelling out tons of money for your oil, why not get the Amsoil which is obviously the superior product? Honestly I think RP is actually not a bad oil, superior to many other oils, but is not better than Amsoil.

Amsoil wins. Intersting RP didnt have much detailed specs, plus its missing the ball wear test

From AMSOIL 10w-30
Fire Point °C (°F) (ASTM D-92) 248C (478F)
Flash Point °C (°F) (ASTM D-92)232C (450F)
Viscosity Index (ASTM D-2270) 155
Four Ball Wear Test @ 40 kgf, 75°C,
1200 rpm, 1 hour, scar diameter, mm (ASTM D-4172)
0.43

From royal purple 10w-30

Basically, on paper in a nutshell, Amsoil is better is what he was saying.

Everyone has their opinions. My advice is to try them both out, I bet you won't be able to tell the difference.

I'd like to see a list of these classifications for Oil.

It seems kind of suspicious to me that all that info was done by a wholeale amsoil dealer. Everything I hear "reputable" about Amsoil comes from a sales site of that product. The prior good things I have heard about Royal Purple come from preople who used it and non-affiliated sites. I don't think Amsoil is bad, it's just I have yet to come across a valid debate as to which Oil really is better.
+1

Show me a conclusive test done by a third party that is NOT affiliated with Amsoil, and I will start using it in my Duster instead of Royal Purple.

EDIT:

My truck would always be a little hard to start when it was below 20*F. It would always start, but it would crank longer than usual. Today, it was 10*F out when I started my truck. After installing the synthetic, it started right up with no problems at all.
