Default RE: Budget 318 Camshaft Build?

Silver_Dodge, I was bored this afternoon so I decided to look up some numbers. If your going to replace your springs, retainers, and locks with Mopar Performance parts I did some searching. Someone might want to look these over quick, but assuming these parts are correct, these would be true for everyone doing the 1.7 swap.

Valve Springs P4876062 (0.400"/0.525" lift)
Valve Retainer P4452032
Valve LocksP4529218

The only problem with the higher lift roller rockers is that they only provide more lift nothing more in terms of duration. keep them open longer to tune the pcm to spray more fuel in.

Higher lift rockers will provide more duration at .050 lift.

Huh? You can run 1.7s with a cam, just get the cam groind for the 1.7 ratio...I did it for years. The problem with running the stock springs and a cam is the springs suck, barely good enough for the stock cam.

To the OP...A cam with higher lift means better springs and retainers, then you'll have to replace the stock two piece valves with one piece valves, stock valves like to snap with higher spring pressures.

I agree, 1.7 rockers need better springs, the Mopar .600 are actually cheaper...but like I said. Stronger springs mean better valves.

EDIT: A Mopar performance SS valve/spring/retainer/seal and lock package adds up to 750.00 bucks. That's why I just bought new Mopar Magnum R/T heads and the above parts package for 1,150.00 shipped off another forum.

The cam gets to .050 lift sooner, and stays there longer, because of the increase in rocker ratio.
