Yeah, I'm no pro as evidenced many times (look up my ball joint festival, it's a laugh) so if there's more evidence to prove a regular metal-gasket-metal seal works better, makes sense because maybe, possibly, the pressure/heat build up in that area could affect the viscosity of the rtv sealant. Ya know, I'm realizing that these dodges are known for strange things.

Yeah.. I laughed so hard, I think I hurt the guys feelings.. I'll find them.. no prob.. just blew me away that they have nice Mopar Performance cast Alum valve covers, but not the gaskets for them...or any for that matter for the magnum 360...very odd...I still almost think the guy didnt know what he was doing...oh well, still looking for thermal tape for the Gibsons anyway so I'll check around. Just hate having to send back a pair of gaskets...odd package size and all the pain of getting them ready for ship and getting them in the mail..[:@]

What was the part number for those valve covers? How much did they run you?

voidthe header warrenty?hmmm... anyone have anything bad to say about the tape??Also.. can anyone tell me if the lifters in a '97 5.9L are rollers? looking at replacements....summit has Mopar performance that say they are the service replacements for magnums.. they are roller lifters...part #DCC-5249862..I'm using HS 1.7 non adjustable Rockers so I was looking for stock replacement lifters to drop in since the intake was going to be off for the plenum.

I wouldnt use silicone on the metal gasket. After time the silicone will wear away, then you have that space where the silicone was that isnt be occupied anymore, thus causing leaks.

gibson warranty
Gibson Performance, Inc. warrants its products to be free from defects in materials in workmanship. Aluminized steel products are warranted for 90 days from the date of purchase, while stainless steel products carry a lifetime warranty against rust-through and corrosion. Gibson will repair or replace any defective part. This limited warranty applies to the original purchaser only and does not cover any damage or defects resulting from collision or accident, improper installation, blow-out by "backfire," off-road use, racing, road hazards, incorrect timing or tuning, external heat wraps, non-factory supercharger, turbocharger or nitrous oxide systems, internal rust, rust-through, or corrosion (except stainless steel products). Any damage to the cosmetic appearance of chrome plating or paint, other than defects in material and workmanship, is not covered under this warranty.

just be careful if you do add the tape/wrap

yeah, I was thiunking that too... the metal gasket wouldnt set all the way with the sealent in the raised ridge.. then if after torqueing, after time the sealent happens to leave a spot for any reason, you now have a metal gasket with a void....still think a more flexable gasket would be key... maybe the felpro is the way to go.
Still thinking this one through.

Padodgeram.... Thanks for the info.. I just got out the warrenty info.. your right on the nose.....Mine are the stainless shorties.....and as headers go... most will have a problem sooner or later.. voiding the warrenty might not be a good idea....but the tape would be a huge help in the engine compartment..thanks for the reply....

Mike
