Those K&N really look high tech and space age. The adds just stab at the heart of all guys. Plus the HP improvement oohhh man. Then you read around this forum you learn that those and the throttle body spacers are a waste of money. They do look cool though. Was it HankL wrote an article that ran down 1/4 mile times with regular, K&N drop in, and no filter in place? Summary: no appreciable difference. I have the K&N drop in, no mpg gain, but I could tell it when I got on it. Plus it is reusable.

This has already been discussed many times, but here goes again...

Unless you have a CAI like my Volant, which pulls air from outside the engine bay (not one that simple gathers air as it enters the hot engine bay, like the K&N and other similar intake brands), you might as well go with the 14x3 round setup, because all you're doing is getting the benefits of a bigger filter, which the 14x3 will do for a LOT cheaper than any CAI. And the benefits of a CAI like the Volant vs. the 14x3 are still debatable.

And even if you elect to go with a CAI, I would never pay above $250 for one, EVER. Thats just highway robbery.

I believe it was IndyRamMan that explained it in great detail in one of the last threads that discussed this, and did a very good job of it.
+1 The only really point in getting a CAI would be for better air flow, its not even really a cold air if your pulling air from inside the engine bay. I had a K&N "CAI" and i noticed better mpg and a little throttle response, but i chose to switch to a hood scoop ram air system. There i noticed gains. The air is actually colder, but if your not lookin for some kind of set up like Volant or some kind of outside air system you should go with the 14x3 round set up.
